This Week's Message from the ECCT Reparations Task Force
Did you know? White people are characterized by race also. The definition of Race from The Racial Justice Audit of Episcopal Leadership reads “Race is a made-up social construct, and not an actual biological fact. Race designations have changed over time. Some groups that are considered “white” in the United States today were considered “non-white” in previous eras, in U.S. Census data and in mass media and popular culture... The way in which racial categorizations are enforced (the shape of racism) has also changed over time. For example, the racial designation of Asian American and Pacific Islander changed four times in the 19th century. That is, they were defined at times as white and at other times as not white.”
See the research from Pew Research Center on the “changing categories the US has used to measure race” here.
What historical fact do you know about why there was the need to determine who was “white?” Answer here.

CHURCH BY THE POND
By Nancy Jacobs, Lay Coordinator
May 29th, 2021
Memorial Day weekend is turning out to offer less than ideal weather for being outdoors. On this cold, rainy day we had a congregation of twelve joined in prayer. Rev. Tracy Johnson-Russell led us in prayer today. She offered a loving reflection of today's Gospel reading. She gave thanks to God for sending Jesus to us; Jesus who is there to heal whether we quietly ask or loudly demand his healing grace.
St. Monica's Episcopal Church, Hartford provided bagged lunches for guests following the service. Twelve guests received two bagged lunches; others will be shared with our Church Street Eats guests on Sunday.

The Church by the Pond block will be returning next week.
We thank you for your ongoing support to God's Mission. Your pledge may be send via snail mail to our Cathedral ( Cathedral at 45 Church Street Hartford, CT 06103). You may also visit our website to make your pledge or donations or simply click below.

Christ Church Cathedral serves the entire Episcopal Church in Connecticut community for the good of the whole, and is the seat of the bishops. It is "our cathedral." Our Cathedral hosts four congregations in one worshiping community. It's not a parish, as its role is unique in the diocese (see 2015 task force report & resolution). In this its centennial year, Cathedral leaders and Centennial Committee members wish to remind all Episcopalians in CT that by virtue of their membership in a parish, they are members of our Cathedral. All are welcome at any time, and in particular, invited to these events .
