Dana Ludvik, CYFS communications and media specialist, will present on the basics of integrated marketing communications in the context of sharing research effectively. She will also discuss how social media can help you get your research in front of the right audiences, how to create compelling content and how researchers should talk to the media.

New! APA Diane J. Willis Early Career Award

The American Psychological Foundation’s Diane J. Willis Early Career Award supports young psychologists making contributions toward informing, advocating for and improving the mental health and well-being of children and families, particularly through policy.

Award amount: $2,000

New! Human Animal Bond Research Institute

The Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) seeks proposals for research on the health outcomes of pet ownership and/or animal-assisted activity or therapy, both for people and the animals involved.

Proposals should have a strong theoretical framework and focus on innovative approaches to studying the health effects of companion animals on humans within the following broad categories: child health and development, healthy aging, and mental and physical health and wellness.

Average HABRI award amount: $45,000

New! Women Investing in Nebraska

Women Investing in Nebraska (WIN) is accepting proposals that outline innovative and bold solutions to the important issues Nebraskans face. 

Grant seekers must be part of the University of Nebraska system or a Nebraska nonprofit. WIN operates in partnership with the University of Nebraska Foundation and the UNF Charitable Gift Fund.

New! Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Equity-Focused Policy Research: Building Cross-Cutting Evidence on Supports for Families with Young Children

The Equity-Focused Policy Research grant program seeks to fund a body of research that illuminates strategies and policies that enhance families’ equitable access to key resources for supporting their children’s healthy development.

Estimated award budget: $50,000 - $200,000

New! Student Funding: Head Start and Child Care Dissertation Grants

Two previously forecasted opportunities are now available. The Early Care and Education Research Scholars grants support doctoral dissertation research addressing issues related to Head Start and child care.

Both grant programs support work that informs policy and practice decisions and solutions, particularly for underserved/understudied populations, and utilizes the most rigorous research methodology.

New! CDC Grants to Support New Investigators in Conducting Research Related to Preventing Interpersonal Violence Impacting Children and Youth

This Mentored Research Scientist Development Award seeks to provide support for an intensive, supervised career development experience in violence prevention research leading to research independence.

Applicants must propose a research project that addresses at least one of the following research priorities: Cross-cutting violence prevention, child abuse and neglect, youth violence, intimate partner violence and/or sexual violence.

Award budget: $100,000 - $125,000

Caplan Foundation for Early Childhood Grants

The Caplan Foundation supports research and development projects that appear likely to improve the welfare of young children, from infancy through age 7, in the United States. The foundation provides funding in the areas of early childhood welfare, early childhood education and play, and parenting education.

The Spencer Foundation supports high-quality, innovative research on education by providing funding for education-focused research projects, research training fellowships and additional field-building initiatives.

The Society for Research in Child Development is accepting applications for the small grants program for early career scholars. Awards are available on a competitive basis for research projects conducted by SRCD early career members who completed their degrees in the past five years.

UNL Office of Research and Economic Development Internal Funding

The UNL Office of Research and Economic Development is sponsoring several internal funding competitions for UNL faculty in 2020-21.

Biomedical Research Seed Grants

National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Early Intervention to Promote Cardiovascular Health of Mothers and Children

NHLBI has forecasted a funding opportunity announcement for Early Intervention to Promote Cardiovascular Health of Mothers and Children (ENRICH). Applications should propose to test the effectiveness of an implementation-ready intervention designed to determine if a cardiovascular health (CVH) promotion module delivered within the context of a home visiting program can enhance maternal and early childhood CVH, and address CVH disparities in mothers and children (0-5 years).

The study population includes those who are of low socioeconomic status, or live in low-resource or underserved rural or urban communities, or in diverse geographic regions of the U.S. with a high burden of cardiovascular disease risk factors.

Proposals are now being accepted for Zero to Three’s virtual annual conference.

Proposals should be relevant to professionals working with children younger than 5 years old (including those in the prenatal period) and their families. Zero to Three’s annual conference is the premier event for professionals across the multidisciplinary early childhood field to learn about current research, promising practices, policy strategies and more, with an explicit focus on advancing equity for black and brown children and families.
