How Residents can Safeguard our Businesses
During the Coronavirus Crisis
|
|
Haverford Partnership for Economic Development (HPED) is committed to supporting local businesses, especially our family-owned businesses, during the coronavirus crisis.
We know that Haverford Township residents are also eager to support our businesses at this time.
|
|
|
|
There are many ways that residents can support businesses while keeping your family safe:
- Order and pay online when possible
- Take advantage of curbside pick-up, delivery, and shipping options
- Purchase gift cards from businesses who are closed to tide them over during this crisis. Consider buying a gift card for someone who is working at an essential business, such as hospital staff and first responders, or for an elderly friend or neighbor.
- For businesses that are closed, like your hair salon, barbershop, gift shop, realtor, fitness center, you can support them by liking their facebook page, leaving an online review, commenting on or liking their posts!
- You may also want to support our local non-profit organizations whose fundraising efforts have stalled, by following them on Facebook or making a donation: HPED, HT Free Library, HT Historical Society, the Grange Estate, Kelly Music for Life (Kelly Center), Haverford Music Fest, HT Adult School, HT YMCA, etc.
We have compiled information about the status of businesses in the Township and posted it on the
Discover Haverford
website, starting first with our restaurants and stores, so that residents can see which businesses are open, open for pick-up and delivery only, and which ones are closed.
We are asking businesses to email
[email protected]
so that we have the most accurate and current information to post.

HPED Welcomes Little Flower Creative Floral Design
HPED would like to welcome Little Flower Creative Floral Design, located at 2014 Darby Road to Haverford Township. Owner Elena Motalkina opened her doors on February 24th, with a positive community reception. For the first time in her life Elena can say she loves her job and she knows that love shows through her arrangements. Elena has been thrilled with the response from the community and with building a customer base so quickly.

Update on Planters
Have you noticed the new planters in the Brookline and Manoa business districts? They look terrific and we can't wait to plant them! Unfortunately, we have been asked not to work on the planters until after the prohibition on non-essential work is over.
Any business who would like to add cold-tolerant flowers (pansies are recommended) in the planters in front of their business in the meantime, are welcome to do so. Please do not remove the perennials that remain in the planters. We will plant the new planters and add annuals to the established planters as soon as we are able.

Main Street Center Seeking Input During Crisis
The National Main Street Center is seeking to understand the threats faced by our small businesses in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Specifically, they need to understand our business’ ability to withstand what may be several months of suppressed revenue and we need to understand what kinds of support programs will have the most impact. In short, strong data will make us stronger advocates to Congress, to state legislators, and to our local elected officials in explaining the kind of resources needed by small businesses to weather the storm.
Individual survey responses, including any personal information, will be confidential, and results will be presented in aggregated, summary form. It should take each small business owner about five minutes to go through the questions.
