SpaceVR Astronaut Experience Anyone?
As a child, did you ever dream of being an astronaut? Did you wonder what it would feel like floating in space watching the earth out of your window; in awe of the natural wonders of this creation we live on called Earth. Ocean Elements Salt Spa & Float Center is now offering a unique SpaceVR Astronaut experience to our Eastern Shore community.
They provide a one of a kind, weightless environment together with virtual reality images of earth that closely simulates the astronaut experience. Each of their three (3) float tanks holds 200 gallons of body temperature water with 1,000 lbs of dissolved Epsom Salt. Because of the high concentration of Epsom Salt, you float weightless, and effortlessly on top of the water. Now, add in virtual reality that provides you with the amazing high-definition images of the earth, and you then have a simulated astronaut experience without leaving the ground.
“The closest I’ve ever come to the zero gravity of space on Earth
was in a sensory deprivation tank.”
NASA Astronaut Nicole Stott
ISS Expedition 20 & Expedition 21
Mission Specialist on STS-128 and STS-133
Ryan Holmes, the creator of SpaceVR, was inspired by a book and short documentary called “The Overview Effect”. Researcher Frank White, from Harvard, discovered that astronauts have a profound realization in space. “A moment of awe”. They float in a zero gravity environment, and have a divine connection with our beautiful home planet that transforms them, enabling them to create a positive impact for humanity upon their return.
Many astronauts create foundations, and write books, inspired by “The Overview Effect”. Due to the unique nature of their transcendental experiences, Ryan asked Frank to be an advisor, and felt a strong urge to recreate “The Overview Effect” that can be experienced by us earthlings. Gene Cernan, the last man to set foot on the moon, summed it up when he looked back at the earth when he was leaving the moon.
“I looked over my shoulder and there is the earth, there is reality, there is home. I wanted to press the freeze button. I wanted to stop time. I really wanted to reach out and put it in my hand and stick it in my spacesuit and bring it back home and show it to everybody. This is what it feels like, this is what it looks like.” Excerpt from the movie “Last Man on the Moon”
Those who have already experienced the beauty of a SpaceVR float in the weightlessness of a float tank, have reported similar sensations to those that astronauts have reported, whereby living their own Overview Effect.

Even though it seemed like #FreddieFlounder got around a lot this winter, he'd packed on a few lbs. He turned to Titan Fitness for their expertise and equipment. Beach body, here we come!

OK, no one is perfect. Luckily, Titan Fitness partners with Delmarva Physical Therapy so #FreddieFlounder could work out that bad fin. Mental note: less weight next time.
