EcoCamp, Riddles, and Citizen Science
Thank you all for supporting our best Idaho Gives fundraiser to date! We raised $4,500 that will directly benefit our summer environmental education programs.

We are closely following Idaho's plan for reopening and are beginning to plan summer programs accordingly. At this time, we expect that the ERC office will partially reopen on Monday, May 18. We will be limiting flow into our office, but will be happy to meet visitors on the porch. We also plan to resume accepting selected recycling with an outdoor drop-off system at that time. As we get closer to the 18th, we will have more guidance on what items we accept at our office location.

This newsletter will transition to bi-weekly after next week's edition, as we shift our focus to planning summer programs. If you want to go back to our previous newsletters for ideas, they are posted on this page on our website

EcoCamp 2020 Update
ERC EcoCamp 2020 Update

ERC staff and board made the difficult decision to cancel EcoCamp 2020 amid Covid-19 concerns. Safety is always the top priority at EcoCamp. Due to the nature of EcoCamp, a remote, natural, close-knit, camping experience with no running water we are unable to offer campers or staff a safe place at camp during this global pandemic.

We look forward to when we connect with you all again in person and are already looking forward to  EcoCamp 2021.

Global Big Day and World Migratory Bird Day

Saturday, May 9, 2020 is both Global Big Day and World Migratory Bird Day

These events are celebrations of birds all over. Participate by taking 5 minutes or even a few hours out birding, and then submitting an e-bird checklist. This year's global goal is to receive over 100,000 checklists! Will yours be one?

Last year, we celebrated with a bird walk with Poo-Wright Pulliam and 15 participants! We hope for that again in 2021!
Zooniverse

This week we're featuring another Zooniverse project that we have participated in. Brush up on your mammal identification skills using the e-mammal citizen science project on Zooniverse

Citizen science is the collection and analysis of data by the general public, usually as a part of a collaborative project with professional scientist.

Volunteers at eMammal deployed hidden cameras across the world in attempts to collect photos and gather data on certain animal behaviors. Take a look at the following image sets and try to determine what animals were caught on camera. These data are useful for addressing important scientific and conservation questions, and the pictures provide a unique view into the hidden world of wildlife.

Nature Riddles

We are sharing our list of nature riddles! Once you solve these clever riddles you can go on a scavenger hunt to see what you find!

Want the list and scavenger hunt? Respond to this e-mail and we will send it over to you. Have a favorite nature riddle? We'd love to hear it too!
