A message from the Director
Hi, Everyone:

I wanted to give you an update on the status of the Library. We are still closed because of the CoVid19 pandemic. However, we are working hard to put policies and procedures in place so that we can begin to offer curbside service in mid to late June, following guidelines provided by New York State and the Mid-Hudson Library System.

Since we all share materials and distribute them from our homes and workplaces, it is important that we have procedures in place for staff and patron safety.

Many of you may have heard that the Library Fair has been canceled this year. We hope to offer a book and plant sale in the fall, so stay tuned.

In the meantime, please continue to use our online offerings and check out our Facebook and Instagram postings. We've recently added an online offering to Stone Ridge Library patrons called Hoopla, and we are especially excited to have this service available to sustain our virtual book discussion groups.

If you would like to return materials that you have been holding, you may do so now by placing them in the book returns at the Library.  If you stop by, please remember to wear a mask and observe social distancing. Of course, all fines will be waived during the pandemic. Beginning on June 1, Library staff will be answering the phone at 687-7023 from 10am to 12 noon, Monday through Saturday.

For updates and events, please check our website and Facebook page regularly.

Thanks, and be well,
Jody Ford, Director
News from the SRL Foundation
An enormous and heartfelt thank you from the SRLF to our amazing Library community, for making our recent Hudson Valley Gives campaign a tremendous success. Together we raised more than  $20,000  for the Library!

This campaign replenishes what our Library lost because of the cancellation of the beloved annual Book Fair / Plant Sale and the Recognition Tea. Thank you all for coming together as a community to help see our Library through this difficult time. Your generosity and loyal support are greatly appreciated!
A Virtual Book Launch of Jim Metzner's
Sacred Mounds
Friday, June 26, at 7pm
Zoom and Facebook Live

The Stone Ridge Library is pleased to announce a virtual book launch for Jim Metzner's new novel, Sacred Mounds on Friday, June 26, at 7pm. The event will be presented on Zoom and on Facebook Live. Details for joining the event will be available on the library's website and Facebook page.

In this work of magical realism and historical fantasy, Metzner weaves the stories of two men: Salvador Samuels, swept back to pre-Colonial times, who finds himself walking in the moccasins of a blind Indian, Skyfisher, who has, in turn, been transported into Salvador's body in present-day America. Born four hundred years apart, bound by a mission to rescue our world, the two men are helped by the presence of the sacred mounds, mysterious ancient earthworks that once dotted the landscape of North America. Sacred Mounds weaves the stories of these two men and two remarkable women; each is a stranger in a strange land, who tries to find a way to save our planet and ultimately return home. more

Summer Story Hours
This summer, Julianna is working on ways to keep children connected to the library and reading as we plan some virtual activities to keep them inspired with entertainment and incentives. Look at our website for a more concrete schedule in June and information about how to register your children for our free virtual summer reading program. The New York State Summer Reading theme is "Imagine Your Story."  We are using our imaginations to create programing you can look forward to:
  • Weekly virtual storytimes with accompanying craft packets which will be available to be retrieved from the library and assembled at home.
  • Two live Zoom craft activities with art teacher Jill Obrig. She will be assembling art packets for registrants to collect and work on while meeting with her virtually. This program is paid for through a grant from Arts Mid-Hudson.
  • "Story Walks" throughout Marbletown. Information will be posted so you will know where your family can walk and follow posted picture book pages for a sort of en plein air book reading experience.
  • Virtual Dungeons and Dragons games for our tweens and teens.
  • Two virtual programs by ScienceTellers will be offered during the summer. The ScienceTellers group merges science and stories together for a humorous and engaging program.
  • Two virtual programs to be offered by PageTurners, These will include lively, comedic story-theater shows which includes crafts, recipes, and much more.
  • Prizes and incentives will be awarded to children who participate in the summer reading challenges.
  • Look for these activities and more on our website and Facebook pages.
