A note from Chapter President, Sandy Lipe, West Coast Roofing

Greetings Tucson NAWIC #122 and Friends!

I want to start out by saying we are starting to see improvements in the pandemic status around here. And that’s exciting! Because we can’t wait to see your faces again. And it’s happening in October! We still plan to have the Bowling Tournament in October right after our first in-person membership meeting.

This past month we were able to award three NAWIC scholarships to deserving young ladies.
Please see the information about the recipients and upcoming meeting below.

At our chapter meeting we will have the changing of the guards so to speak. Out with the current Board and in with the new.

I foresee many new beginnings in the NAWIC future. With that being said, I want to let you know my heartfelt appreciation in this, my last President’s letter, for my time serving as your president. This is the most amazing group of ladies out there, and I would have been honored just to play any part of this group. But to serve as your president for two years has been an exceptionally high honor for me. Don’t worry, I’m not going anywhere. I will still be here and I hope to be able to serve in whatever capacity is needed. I know that Tracy Miller will lead this group forward with her southern accent and hospitality. I look forward to seeing where Chapter #122 will go.

Proud to have been your president!

Sandy Lipe

Congratulations to Our 2020 Scholarship Recipients

The Tucson Chapter of the National Association of Women in Construction offers two different types of funding for schooling and continuing education for women and men of the community employed or interested in joining the trades.

We are proud to offer grant-type funding for individuals gaining education who are not related directly to a current NAWIC member.

Additionally, we offer a Scholarship program with the Cornerstone Building Foundation Charities and with funding from our Shirley Dail Endowment Fund. We are able to offer funding to individuals, including NAWIC members, their families and friends. This includes continuing education opportunities, as well as job requirement tool funding.

Congratulations to our 2020 scholarship recipients.

Volunteers Needed
Our bowling tournament is coming up October 10th. We need volunteers to help with set-up & teardown, registration, raffle and lunch.
Our friends at Cornerstone Building Foundation will be holding their B.I.G. (Building Industry Golf) Tournament, Friday, October 9th at Starr Pass Golf Club. They are also in need of volunteers.

Support our chapter and the construction industry, catch up with friends, and make new contacts. For details and/or volunteer for either or both events, contact tracy.nawic@gmail.com.
A Thank You From NAWIC Sister, Taylor Kessler, Green Valley Cooling & Heating
“I’m so blown away by the support of my NAWIC sisters!! I came home to packages at our front door, and it’s all gifts for our sweet boy! Thank you so much NAWIC Tucson #122 for showering our son with baby gifts. Your support means the world! Love, The Kesslers”
Safety Tip
Each month NAWIC will provide a timely safety tip courtesy of

Health and wellness works a lot like automotive maintenance. If the only time your vehicle makes it into the shop is when it breaks down, you’ll end up spending a lot more money and dealing with a broken car most of the time. But if you keep up on oil changes, fluid flushes, tire rotations and more, your car will not only run properly, but you will also spend less money in the long run. Our bodies work the same way when it comes to our health. Making a priority to keep up to date with wellness screening will keep you “up and running” for the long haul.
Membership Extension Notice From NAWIC National

YOU, our NAWIC Members, are and always will be the Association’s top priority. NAWIC wants to ensure that YOU stay connected and supported through this difficult time we are facing in 2020. Continuing to maintain your NAWIC connections and support systems within your own chapters, regions and nationally is an important part of building strong relationships both professionally and personally. Therefore, we are automatically extending all memberships through Dec. 31, 2020. Each member’s type and good standing status as of Sept. 30, 2020 will continue through this extension.

And speaking of membership . . .
