CAHEC Connection                                         April 2020

In This Issue

After careful consideration, we have decided to cancel the 2020 CAHEC Partners Conference. As much as we enjoy gathering every year to celebrate our collective accomplishments, we know the best decision is to cancel the event and shift our focus to helping our partners ensure the safety and security of employees and residents.

As always, a special thank you to our sponsors. We wouldn't be able to do this event without your support, and we look forward to collaborating to make next year's event the best one yet.

Finally, please mark your calendars for the 2021 CAHEC Partners Conference, which will be held on Wednesday, June 9, and Thursday, June 10, 2021, at the Grandover Resort & Conference Center in Greensboro, NC.

For questions regarding the conference or sponsorship refunds, please contact Amy Cross at across@cahec.com. Thank you for your continued support and see you in 2021!

The YMCA of Greater Louisville, one of our CAHEC New Markets investments, is currently closed due to COVID-19. While they can't operate their normal day-to-day activities, they were approached by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Human Services to open their doors to provide childcare for essential workers.

"The Cabinet Secretary and I met when he was with the Mayor's office in Louisville," explained Steve Tarver, President & CEO for the YMCA of Greater Louisville. "He called me initially and I contacted our state alliance of YMCAs. We were asked to be the exclusive state-wide partner for the state." Counting two sites in southern Indiana (part of their Association), there are 20 sites across the state of Kentucky that are participating in this effort to support those on the front lines.

"Intuitively, I believe - and hope - this has served as a calming effect on the community knowing that services are being provided to keep these critical health and first responder services available in the community," Tarver stated. "The people that need this service, really need it."

Although some of the activities are unavailable at this time, like the use of the pool, the YMCA staff are dedicated to keeping youth active throughout the day. "We are emphasizing distancing while trying to keep some level of schedule," Tarver explained. "The Ys are closed for normal programming so we have plenty of space to do crafts, play games, and just run around to expend energy."

CAHEC is proud to have partners that believe in supporting the community during such uncertain times. Thank you for your service to our neighbors in need!

We're excited to introduce three new members of the CAHEC organization!

Patty Adams (pictured left) joined CAHEC in February as our Manager, Finance. She has over 20 years of accounting experience and brings with her a vast knowledge in enhancing processes and implementing new systems. Her ability to work well with people makes her a perfect addition to the Finance & Operations department.

Kyrie McKinney (pictured middle) joined CAHEC in March as a Communications Specialist. Her background includes marketing, communications, and event experience - including nonprofit work. We can't wait to see her creativity come to life in the Finance & Operations department.

Aaron Walker (pictured right) joined CAHEC in March as an Asset Manager. She has extensive experience in commercial banking and affordable housing, and has worked in the banking industry in various roles over the last 20 years. We are sure her many years of experience will bring a fresh perspective to our Asset Management team.

Please join us in welcoming Patty, Kyrie, and Aaron to the CAHEC family!

MIAMission in Action

The CAHEC staff is missing the opportunity to volunteer right now. Since we are unable to get out in the community, we thought we'd take a look back at some of our favorite volunteer memories from the past couple of years.

We can't wait to get back out and start serving our community again once this has all passed!
