This Sunday's Sermon...
There are defining moments to anything we value; times we can look back and say, " That's when everything changed" or " That's when it took on a life of its own." Jesus had spoken of the gift of the Holy Spirit but, you know, such wasn't a familiar concept: " How?"" When?"" Will we know for sure?" Peter was first to recognize: " Ah, this is it! The Spirit is moving,"and everyone found a unique voice to share..." as the Spirit gave them ability".
This Sunday at  2:30 p.m....
Celebrating With Our Newly Baptized!
multi-color-stars.gif
Our Baptism Candidates will be baptized in the Broadway Sanctuary this Sunday afternoon, and even with COVID - we could not let this very special day happen without an opportunity for all of us to celebrate as the Broadway family!

We are asking that you and your family join us in the Broadway west parking lot to form a car corridor for our newly baptized Broadway members as they leave the building at 2:30 p.m.  Doug Muzzy and crew will manage parking logistics beginning at 2:00 p.m., and we ask that all cars be in place by 2:30 p.m.

As the Candidates exit, they will walk down the corridor - roll down your car windows and cheer, shout a blessing, clap, bring a sign - be creative as you offer your blessings and welcome to our newest members of the Broadway family!
This Sunday  after our Baptism Celebration...
Blessing & Farewell for  Pastor Nick...
After almost ten years, Pastor Nick Larson's final day with us will be Sunday, May 31.
While we cannot gather and celebrate his years at Broadway as we'd like right now, we do want to give you the opportunity to bless Nick on his way as he enters this time of new opportunities and change.  Following our Baptism Celebration is the west parking lot, you can offer Nick a blessing and best wishes from your car, as he stands underneath the covered drive in from of the Narthex doors.  We ask that you remain in your cars during your time with Pastor Nick.

Looking  Forward to Gathering for Worship
We Have a Plan!!
Our ministers, along with our COVID advisory team, have been  Zoom-meeting and email planning for several weeks, discerning the safest and most meaningful way to bring us together for worship AT church.  As pandemic restrictions ebb and flow toward a new normal, so do the plans for in-person worship.  But there are some facts that can be shared now:
  • Our first day back for in-person worship is Sunday, June 7 at 10:30 a.m. There will be one service. This format will continue each Sunday in June and is approved by our city's health department.
  • Worship will be held in the Outdoor Worship Area, following social distancing parameters.  Please bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating - the bench seating will be used for our worship team and musicians. Our property team is working hard to beautify and prepare the whole "amphitheater" for worship. It's looking amazing!
  • Masks or face coverings are requested while entering and exiting the worship area but can be removed, as comfortable, while seated in place. A limited supply of cloth face masks will be available, made by the loving hands of Broadway members.
  • There will be no adult, youth or children's Sunday School.
  • There will be no offering or provided communion. However, you may bring your own communion elements to share with family members when that sacred moment is honored in the service. An offering box will be available for donations.
  • While encouraged to utilize restrooms at home before coming to worship, the CLC restrooms will be open should need arise.
  • In the event of rain any Sunday in June, we will notify the community by Social Media and our website if in-person service is cancelled.
Virtual worship will continue each Sunday at 10:30 AM during June for those who prefer to avoid gatherings due to pandemic concerns. Such will be available on Broadway's social media platforms for viewing at your convenience. The in-person worship service will include most of the same elements present in the virtual service for sake of consistency, a beautiful hybrid of all of Broadway's worship styles.

And please note, to ensure the safety and health of our members and staff - all plans are subject to change!  But keep your prayers going, and our plan will be to see many of you on June 7!

And Now A Word from the Covid Advisory Team...
Our Covid Advisory Team is monitoring the most current information available on the virus and Covid cases in Boone County.  Please remember to bring a mask, or to pick one up as you enter the worship area on June 7.  Hand sanitizer will be available as well.
Remember also, that while the team is taking extra care to keep you and your family safe, we ask that you help us to keep our staff and ministers safe.  Following the conclusion of service on June 7, please allow ministers and staff plenty of space to maintain safe social distancing.  We'd all like a hug - but we will love a "smile and wave" on Sundays for the foreseeable future!

Another Covid Cancellation...
NEOLA Summer Camps Cancel for 2020
Last week, a somber outdoor ministries team meeting took place. Sadness was palpable upon the faces of all leaders when we agreed that we should not and will not host any regional camps this summer. Due to the lingering presence and spreading of Covid-19 throughout Missouri, the risks of managing socially-distant, regularly disinfected, health-monitoring camps and still providing the spiritually-enriching, life-changing experience would be difficult, if not impossible. Those who registered will receive full refunds. Should the late summer or fall provide windows of being safe to gather again, camp directors are looking into possibilities of limited day or weekend reunion or retreat gatherings.
Now More Than Ever...
Sunday Morning Servants Are Needed!
Our request for Sunday Morning Servants may seem a bit strange, given that our in-person worship has been suspended for now.  But, we know that things will change, regulations will be modified and eventually - we will have worship at and in church again!
Even as we look forward to that future Sunday, we also know that the way we do things will change to reflect the need to continue social distancing and careful sanitizing of "touch points" around the church.  This will require more helping hands on Sunday mornings - and we ask that you consider volunteering as an usher or welcomer.  It is entirely likely as we modify our Sunday morning procedures to maintain safety for all, that   more volunteers will be needed.
The new church year begins on July 1, 2020 and continues through June 30, 2021.  Ingrid maintains the schedules, and can customize your serving Sundays to avoid vacations or other special events.   You can  download a Volunteer Sign-Up to discover how you can help!
Contagious Love Devotionals Wrap on June 1

We hope that many of you have enjoyed the Contagious Love devotionals.  These meditations have been contributed by Broadway ministers, staff, Elders and Deacons as we made our way through this unusual and uncertain time of COVID.  Our final devotional in the series will be Monday, June 1, as we look forward to the new normal of social distancing and our slow walk toward in-person gatherings!
