House Education Committee sends HB1446 to the House of Representatives

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 23, 2020) – Military families are one step closer toward Succeed Scholarship eligibility today because the House Education Committee voted to pass HB1446 through to the House floor for a full vote.

The Reform Alliance (TRA) praised the legislators for moving it forward. Rep. David Ray and Sen. Jane English are sponsors for the bill, which would expand eligibility for the Succeed Scholarship to children of active duty military and national guard members, as well as children of those killed in the line of duty. The bill would give priority to students with special needs or in foster care, but make any remaining funding available to students from military families.

"Military families face unique challenges when it comes education, and the Succeed Scholarship could be key to helping them overcome these challenges," said TRA's Managing Director Emmy Henley. "It's vital that we make every effort to support military personnel and their families."
