NCFAR Virtual Lunch-N-Learn
Climate change is impacting rural America from the arid west to the humid east. America’s agricultural producers are living with intensifying droughts, wildfires, temperature extremes, floods, hail, hurricanes, and reduced winter snowpack all of which increase production risks. Of significance, aquifer levels in arid and semi-arid production regions are no longer meeting crop water demands, and in many cases no longer a viable water source for rural communities.
On June 28, 2022 NCFAR hosted the Virtual Lunch-N-Learn webinar “The Impact of Climate Change on Agricultural Production and Rural Communities” with Dr. Jourdan Bell, Associate Professor and Extension Specialist in the Department of Soil and Crop Sciences, Texas A&M University in Amarillo, Texas. The goal of the webinars is to educate and empower staff on Capitol Hill and policy stakeholders about the value of public investment in food and agricultural research. Click here for more information on the webinars and links to recordings of this and past webinars.

“Our relationship with food continues to be complicated due to a host of factors, including a strained economy, a continued pandemic, ongoing supply chain issues, adoptions of new technology, and how we hold ourselves accountable for our food choices and our overall approach to eating,” said FMI President and CEO Leslie Sarasin. Use of antimicrobials in animals trends downwards
The use of antimicrobials in animals across the world has shown an overall decrease of 27% between 2016 and 2018, according to the data reported to the World Organization for Animal Health (WOAH, founded as OIE).
Similar progress has been found in the use of antibiotics for growth promotion. For long a common way to enhance productivity in animals raised for human consumption, the use of antibiotics in healthy animals to boost growth is no longer a practice in nearly 70% of the reporting countries.
