Celebrate and invest in your front line staff this month by registering for Creating Pathways. This event, geared towards your school's most important ambassador, school secretaries and administrative assistants, is back in 2022! Participants will have the opportunity to reflect on their critical role in the school and to develop skills to help them succeed.

This event will be held at the Michigan Catholic Conference in Lansing, Michigan from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will include presentations on Google Classroom, Self-Care, Customer Service, Health and Safety, and time for networking!

What your peers said about the 2019 Creating Pathways:
  • It's a great way to network with peers, as well as learn things that are useful to my work. These topics intentionally chosen and geared for the school secretary/admin. assistant/office professional make it very special, and not just something offered that there may be bits and pieces that might be useful.
  • It's a pleasure to spend time with Christians and fellow admins. I always come away refreshed.
  • I think it is good to see and meet with people who do the same things all over the state. Its nice to know there are others who do the same things.

Legal Obligations of Educational Personnel Related to Student Abuse and Neglect
The federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (ESEA), as reauthorized in 2015, includes Section 8546—a provision to help protect students from sexual abuse and misconduct in schools. The purposes of this memorandum are:
  1. to describe Michigan’s statutory requirements related to Section 8546;

2022 Immunization Requirements for Children Entering Kindergarten and 7th Grade, or Enrolling in a New School District in Grades 1-12
Immunizations are one of the most effective and scientifically proven measures to protect children from harmful diseases and death. Since 1978, Michigan law has required that each student have an up-to-date certificate of immunization at the time of registration (or no later than the first day of school) for entry into kindergarten and 7th grade, and for enrollment into a new school district, grades 1-12.

Congress Passes School Meal Funding Legislation
On June 25, 2022, President Biden signed into law the Keep Kids Fed Act. This law extends critical school meal waivers to address childhood hunger in the summer months and expands funding for meals during the 2022-2023 school year. A special thank you to U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow for her efforts to bring this to fruition.

Professional Development and Other Resources
National Center for Education Statistics High School and Beyond Longitudinal Study of 2022
The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) requests support from private schools for the U.S. Department of Education’s High School & Beyond Longitudinal Study of 2022 (HS&B:22). The study will give policymakers and educators information they need to improve the high-school experience and outcomes for ALL students. The study will offer the opportunity to explore students’ transitions into and out of high school and create a big picture view of K-12 education and trends as it follows the elementary and middle grades longitudinal studies. NCES encourages participation of schools that are selected to represent the U.S. educational experience in this study. The Office of Non-Public Education encourages selected private schools to participate so that a comprehensive national picture of factors that propel some students to successful completion of high school and entry into the work or college is obtained.
