Food Donation for Health Care Workers

Hello Bellevue High families,

This is Jungyeol Kim, Steven (12th grade) and Alex Cho's (10th grade) mom.

I hope you are staying healthy during these uncertain times. With the current situation, although everyone is staying at home, I hope we can support our community together. Doctors and nurses continue to work on the frontlines against COVID-19, and I think it would be great if we can support them for the sacrifices they are making. I arranged a food donation with the Harborview UW Medical Center and Overlake Medical Center. If you want to participate in this food donation, please sign up with the link below.

In addition, I know that some people might want to or is making homemade face masks to donate to the medical staff. If anyone needs the elastic bands for the ear loops for the masks, please contact me and I can share some with you.

Thank you!

Medical Community Support

Please write your  Words of Encouragement and Support to UW Medicine

The caregivers and staff of UW Medicine are working tirelessly in response to COVID-19 and encouragement from the community goes a long way in boosting their spirits. Consider leaving a note that we will share with them  here.

We need your help!

Hello families of Bellevue High School! As you know, COVID-19 is affecting everyone right now, especially people in the medical staff. Nurses and doctors are starting to run out of PPE (personal protective equipment) while fighting on the front lines against coronavirus. That is why I am asking everyone to participate with me in creating homemade protective equipment such as face masks and face shields to donate to hospitals. With everyone currently home right now and a lot of time to spare, we can all work together to help in the fight against coronavirus. In addition, if you do choose to participate, there is a possibility that you might earn volunteer hours. If interested in helping, see below for more information.

WHAT CAN YOU DO TO HELP:
If you want to help contact  [email protected] or call 206-981-8609.
You can create or donate any type of protective gear that hospitals need. These are: N95 masks, surgical masks, gloves, face shields, wipes and disinfectants, and gowns.
This can be done at your own house and get materials from local shops or online. Or if you want to help but don't have materials, let me know.

Here are some links below that show good examples on how to make face masks or shields.

Face Masks:

Face Shields:

Click to Download: This is a video I made to show how I made the face shields
In addition, please try to make face shields clear and easy to see through for the convenience of doctors and nurses.
If you want, you can write a small message for the medical workers expressing your support and gratitude.

ATHLETICS
SPRING SPORTS SENIORS 2020 - IN THEIR OWN WORDS!!

Hello Bellevue High School & BHS Community....in another effort to honor and celebrate our Senior Student Athletes this Spring, we have reached out to ALL of the individual Seniors and their parents who are participating in Athletics. We are asking that if students themselves would like to have a chance to comment on what being a student athlete means to them, any highlights or memories they'd want to share and any people that they'd want to thank have a chance to do so.

Senior Student Athlete - Bella Chang, Girls Badminton Class of 2020

Bella Chang

"I'm Bella Chang, and I'm a senior at Bellevue High School! I have been on the varsity badminton team for all of my 4 years of high school and I was co-captain for 3 of those years. High school badminton has been one of the most memorable times of high school for me. Even from the very first day, I knew I had become part of a community of some of the sweetest, most determined girls I had ever met.
Our team has always worked extremely hard during practice and games, but they are also such fun and energetic women. Some of my favorite memories have been making huge posters for the seniors and playing Ultimate Birdie with my teammates. I am so grateful to have grown from the younger "little sister" figure as a freshman to where I am today. I am thankful to have played this sport, ran around those courts, and practiced alongside all the girls I have met: from 2017-2020. It's been a great run BGB!!!"

Senior Student Athlete remarks from Jay Park, Track & Field Class of 2020

Jay Park

Throughout my high school years playing multiple sports, I've enjoyed the bonds and new friendships I got to create outside of the classroom. I've always been an active kid and never really played any sports before high school and deciding to run track my freshmen year was the best decision I have ever made. Since then, I have created lifelong memories like going to state last year and also becoming the boys Kingco champs. There are so many small unforgettable moments I share between my teammates and if I were to recommend freshmen to run track, I would a 100% help recruit more students. I was greatly looking forward to this season after training as soon as football season was over. It was the first time I sacrificed this much of my time and effort to get faster and all that preparation goes to my coach, Tatum Taylor. I am thankful that he somehow ended up here in Bellevue and got the chance to coach all of us. He is not just a coach, but more so a friend as we have created such a strong friendship during the season that we feel comfortable joking around and talking outside of track just about anything.

Comments by Trent Gertz, BHS Wolverine Baseball Class of 2020

Trent Gertz

I'd like to say "Thank you to my family, friends, and college counselor for supporting me throughout these past four years and helping me continue my baseball career throughout college as well."

Be safe and well, Go Bellevue!!!
SENIORS

CLASS OF 2020 UPDATE

With much uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 virus and how it will impact the end of the school year, we know that many Seniors and parents have questions regarding graduation events. While we do not know exactly how the current situation will evolve, we do anticipate that this graduation season will be different than in years past and will require flexibility on all our parts.

We are working closely with the school district to develop contingency plans and advocate safe ways to recognize and celebrate our Seniors. As plans evolve, we will make sure to communicate through The Blast.  We welcome creative ideas and suggestions on ways to honor graduation events with a twist toward social distancing awareness. Please email [email protected] and [email protected] to pass your ideas along.

We encourage Seniors to participate in both upcoming Virtual Town Halls for Graduating Seniors (details sent in email from Dr. Anderson on April 3rd):

  • Monday, April 20th from 1:45-2:45pm hosted by Principal Vic Anderson for Bellevue High Senior Class

Stay safe!

JUNIORS

Every year the junior class at BHS has a raffle to raise funds to lower the cost of senior events such as prom and graduation.   Our raffle includes:  4 Night Getaway in a villa at the Westin Los Cabos for 6 guests, Cabo restaurant giftcard, and $750 cash.  Our goal is to raise $30,000 by selling 2,000 raffle tickets for $15 each.

We  still need a few more sellers to sell just 25 tickets each to achieve our goal!   You may sell tickets to other BHS parents, co-workers, family members, or you may purchase them yourselves. You will have until the drawing on April 23 to sell them.  We will provide email templates and marketing materials to help you sell.

Please email [email protected] if you can help sell.

We also really need parents to buy tickets!  THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR FABULOUS SELLERS BELOW!  Please contact one if you would like to purchase.
