All WILPF US Members Welcome to Tuesday, June 2, Call on National Program Actions

At-large members and branch members, you're  all encouraged to attend this conference call.  You can use the new ideas and materials from any or all of the six specific issue committees --  now and during the next couple years. Use this information and the issue committee materials to work with other organizations and individuals in your community.

Please prepare now to join the national Program Committee conference call meeting:
Tuesday, June 2 at 5 PM PDT / 8 PM EDT

The
open-to-all-members Program meeting is for branch members and at-large members. Attend and gather information to help with planning for short- and long-range activities!

How the Call Works

You must preregister here ASAP:

if  you haven't been on a Program call in the last five months.

You will receive reminders with the call-in information and the optional, but helpful, computer link to click to see meeting documents. (The email reminder messages from Michael should arrive twice, on Monday and again on Tuesday, two hours before the call.)

For branches, the idea is for each to have multiple members attending on Tuesday, to allow at least one person to attend each of the broad issue committee subject areas.  We will use the breakout rooms of the call system (Maestro) , with one "room" for each issue committee and also one general room, featuring the WILPF US liaisons with the Poor People's Campaign.

Choosing Our National Program Priorities for the Next Years
Another aspect (new this year!) of working together as WILPF US is developing  national program priorities for the next years

After the committee breakout groups, we'll share brief reports from them, including any new topics that arise.  Then we'll  move to identifying priorities for the next few years.

We want unifying priorities that can apply to all the issue committees' work.

You're Welcome to Get More Connected to National WILPF Priorities and Actions!
Please do join the June 2 call and send your ideas and questions:
[email protected]

There will be other times/ways to get informed and involved but this should be an excellent beginning based on the enthusiastic responses to the breakout room sessions on our April 7 Program call. WILPF members appreciate the chance to talk together!

Advancing Human Rights
Be inspired and get ideas for local and national participation! Branches and individual WILPF members can share and hear further information on the AHR meeting calls, the first Thursday evening each month. An essential component of AHR is Communities Working Toward Racial Justice. More AHR projects will be developed as the committee welcomes additional members.

Cuba and the Bolivarian Alliance
This committee is working with several groups on the immediate crises and long-term change:
  1. US-Canada-Cuba coalition campaign regarding COVID-19: All nations must cooperate to beat the virus. Cuban medical personnel are helping in many countries around the world.
  2. Pacific Northwest Alliance Campaign: Launching in Portland, including the WILPF branch, this campaign began with the US Sanctions Kill webinar with a focus on Venezuela. Other branches and regions are welcome to join.
  3. International Week of Actions Against US-Imposed Sanctions and Economic War: Build awareness of the extent and impact of this new form of US imposed warfare!

DISARM/End Wars
  1. 1945 Timeline -- 75 years since the United Nations was founded and since the bombs devastated Hiroshima and Nagasaki:  Information, monthly online programs, and WILPF US branch/member involvement, including a feminist/WILPF point of view.
  2. Folded paper cranes given to WILPF US by Hibakusha and their supporters: Branches will receive a package, including letters with information to suggest ways to use the cranes this summer and in the future.
Earth Democracy
  1. A social media campaign:  It is under development, possibly including Communities and Nature programming.
  2. Two new videos: These are now available, on the military budget and military contamination, with web pages that could go online and be available via Instagram.
  3. Food sovereignty/local economy:  This new initiative is being developed.
Middle East
  1. No Way to Treat a Child Campaign: In support of HR 2407, this campaign is about Palestinian children in Israeli military prisons.
  2. Choosing: Annexation or Negotiated Settlement (Israel/Palestine)
  3. Make Bridges Not Walls Campaign: This campaign can intersect with other committees and groups because "walls" can apply to several kinds of walls in various countries, including the walls of a prison or all of the things that unnecessarily separate people instead of bringing them together!
Women, Money and Democracy (W$D)
  1. Listening Post or town meeting (virtual): Make videos of asking people to describe how the current economy -- both before and during the pandemic -- is affecting them. The plan is to use that video with Congresspersons.
  2. Hook up people around the country with public banking efforts in their states. The committee is pulling together resources.
  3. Ask people you know to view the movie "The Laundromat" about corporate fraud and shell corporations and how that affects the average person; then have a discussion.

Poor People's Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival
Mary Bricker-Jenkins and Jan Corderman -- our national WILPF connections with the PPC -- and several branches with people active in the local PPC groups across the country will have time to share with the rest of us during the Program meeting call. They'll especially tell about preparation for the June 20 national PPC activities online.

Act Now!
