Ready-to-Go Resources
Elementary & Middle School
How can we help students value intercultural understanding at a time when countries are shutting down travel and immigration because of a worldwide pandemic? Listen to award-winning authors’ perspectives on “crossing borders,” download an annotated bibliography of related children’s literature and access the World Wise Schools Curriculum based on Peace Corps Volunteer experiences.
Middle School
 Grades 7 - 8
President Kennedy used the metaphor of tree-planting in several of his speeches to inspire action on various long-term challenges facing the nation. In this lesson, introduced in our Fall 2017 newsletter, students investigate the use of metaphor in presidential oratory and use their own metaphors in writing a persuasive piece on a current national or global issue.
High School
Seventeen years ago, the Kennedy Library began its popular Federal Budget simulation, highlighted in our Spring 2012 newsletter, in which students create their own discretionary federal budgets. In this online version, students can learn about the importance of the budgeting process and about how government spending decisions form the basis of most national policy.
Forum Spotlight
Watch and Discuss a Past Forum
A Conversation with His Excellency Ban Ki-moon
His Excellency Ban Ki-moon, Eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations and Angelopoulos Global Public Leaders Fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School, discussed key global issues and reflected on his distinguished diplomatic career with David Gergen, Senior Political Analyst for CNN and Founding Director of the Center for Public Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Kennedy Library Forums are webcast live and recorded whenever possible. Written transcripts of most recorded events are also available. View our past Forums or visit our YouTube channel to view past Forums.
Activity of the Week
Colonial Couture
Bring one of the favorite Presidents' Day Family Festival activities to your students. They can make their own tricorn hat and a cravat to match the popular colonial and federal style worn by presidents — including George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson — as well as many colonials and founding leaders. Explore late eighteenth-century America in style with your whole class.
