Congress Tees Up Next Round of Relief
Though the House has declined to return to Washington D. C. when the Senate does on May 4, citing safety concerns, the priorities are being laid out by both sides. In a statement, the Senate Majority Leader called out the need for limited liability protections as we head toward safe reopening. The House, meanwhile, is focused on procuring additional funding for the CARES Act in order to increase assistance for small businesses, including changing certain eligibility requirements, and address weaknesses in the supply chain. We’ll continue to work with our national partners to advocate for fixing the gaps in the federal relief programs.
Property Taxes
Our press for state property tax deferral or abatement compliments the efforts of the statewide and local chambers of commerce across Minnesota. Many counties have already modified their deadlines and/or waived penalties. To date, we are aware that modifications have been made in Crow Wing, Hennepin, Houston County, Kandiyohi, Mower, Olmsted, Sherburne, Steele and Winona counties. Since there will be variations across counties, it is important that you contact your county’s property tax division directly to learn about and advocate for property tax relief.
