Looking Back at the Summer
Its All About Togetherness
We had a wonderful summer at Tides! From gathering with one another at Governors Park in Bellefonte to feeling the comforting effects of the horses at Rising Hope Therapeutics Riding Center, then attending the Spikes game last week, connection and companionship were had by all who attended.

New and veteran volunteers gathered for our ice cream social and training sessions in August in anticipation of our upcoming school year.
Oh, What a Night!
August was a significant month for us! In addition to participant and volunteer gatherings, Tides hosted the inaugural A Night at the Barn event at the beautiful Cooke Tavern Barn...and what a success! We raised over $55,000 in support of the expanding programs we offer to our community and the families we support.

A Peek of What’s Ahead
With the summer weather coming to an end and students settling into this school year, all of us at Tides are gearing up to resume our peer support programming – Tides Nights and school-based grief and loss groups.
Tides Nights
Evelyn, Tides Program Director, actively is working on the beginning of our bi-monthly Tides Nights which will start on September 15 at Mount Nittany Middle School. We miss the kids and the adults we have been seeing regularly and look forward to seeing them next Thursday!
School-Based Programming
Angie, Tides Program and Outreach Manager, has spent the summer developing a curriculum and program for the students in our local schools who will be participating in the school-based groups. At the end of the 2022 school year, Tides had groups in six different schools, spanning five districts. With the start of this school year, we already have nine groups interested in starting up or continuing programming in the fall.
We are incredibly thankful to the State High Girls Soccer team for drive to support the Tides’ mission and programs. Just this week they kicked off their annual campaign, When Soccer Becomes Greater to raise awareness and funds for Tides. Check out their website to learn more and donate to Tides through this collaboration between the soccer team and Tides.

September is
Suicide Prevention Month
It can be difficult to talk to some who is suffering from mental health and suicidal thoughts. It can also be very difficult for that person to share because of the fear stigma that sometimes following expressing their feelings.

If a friend or family member is battling depression and is at risk or considering suicide, it is imperative to have an open and honest conversation. Talk with them in private, listen, tell them you care, be calm and non-judgmental, encourage them to seek professional help, do not minimize their stress or problems, and ask them if they’re thinking about suicide.
Thinking about volunteering?
Tides is expanding and we are looking for additional volunteers to help support our growing needs.
