The Behavioral Health Workforce Initiative was born from a convening in March 2022, when VAN gathered nearly 90 key stakeholders in healthcare, workforce development, faith, government, and the nonprofit sector to explore innovative ways to strengthen the workforce in response to the behavioral health crisis in Washington County.
“Since convening the Behavioral Health Workforce Summit, VAN has responded to the immediate and urgent need of Washington County’s largest service providers to increase their staffing levels,” shared VAN’s Executive Director Glenn Montgomery. “The award from Marie Lamfrom Charitable Foundation is vital to our role as a convener and facilitator of collaborative, creative problem solving.”

VAN is excited to be partnering with Clean Water Services to lead a series of facilitated discussions that will provide guidance and direction on a vision for the future of the Tree for All collaborative.
Since 2005, Tree for All has been working with 40+ partners as stewards of the Tualatin River Watershed. Partners have completed more than 700 Tree for All projects, planted more than 15 million trees and shrubs, and restored more than 30,000 acres and more than 140 river miles.
Today, Tree for All is embarking on the development of a new strategic plan which will provide a shared vision and brand, shared goals with specific initiatives and objectives, and partner commitments to lead initiatives. VAN is thrilled to be chosen to facilitate this process and we look forward to working with Clean Water Services and Tree for All partners as they explore new directions in their quest to make the region healthy and vibrant for generations to come.

Our quarterly meeting of the Thrives All-Collaborative took place Wednesday, July 20, and we were pleased to host Cole Merkel, Co-Director of HereTogether, who delivered an update on the Supportive Housing Services measure with a special focus on the great progress being made in Washington County.
In addition, VAN Executive Director Glenn Montgomery updated the Collaborative on the Behavioral Health Workforce Initiative and issued a call-to-action for organizations and individuals interested in helping with the initiative’s long-term goals, including organizations that may be able to partner with VAN in response to RFP’s to fund the work.

La Guelaguetza is an annual indigenous cultural event in Mexico that takes place in the city of Oaxaca, as well as in nearby villages. The celebration centers on traditional dancing and includes parades complete with indigenous walking bands, native food, and statewide artisanal crafts such as pre colonization-style textiles. This event is hosted by TierrAgua.
