A Message from Mr. McDonough

Student & Parent Feedback

We are seeking to learn more about the experiences that our families are having this fall semester.  And thus I am asking both our students and our parents to take 10-15 minutes to complete an important feedback form.  Your responses will help inform us as we continue to support our families and plan for the spring 2021 semester.

We ask our students to please use this link to the form: BHS Student Feedback Form
We ask our parents to please use this link to the form:  BHS Parent Feedback Form

Parents with more than one child at Bellaire may complete more than one form.

Winter Break Reprieve

As we approach the winter break, it is my sincere hope that each of us can find time to simply rest.  And to support this effort, I have made the decision that there will be no new assignments given to students that are to be completed over the two weeks we are away.  The spring semester will be the next leg in this marathon, and we cannot make it to the finish line without taking care of ourselves and supporting each other.

Thank you,
Michael McDonough
Heading Into Winter Break
We begin the week next week with a B-Day. We encourage students to reach out to their teachers and work 1:1 or in small groups during Office Hours any day between 12:20pm - 1:20pm.

First Lady’s Rising Star Award - Office of the TX Governor
Annie and Shirley Zhu, Bellaire seniors, were awarded the First Lady's Rising Star Award for their work in creating Project Fresh Hub to distribute food to Houston's food deserts.
Read below from the press release from the State of Texas:

"Twin sisters Annie Zhu & Shirley Zhu, (17) take decisive action when they see a need in their community. To tackle the issue of food insecurity in Houston, they launched Project Fresh Hub, a student-led volunteer service initiative dedicated to providing under-served communities with rescued food. From April 2018 to October 2020, the two young women led 18 food distribution events, rescuing 11,800 pounds of unsold fresh produce and bread from grocery stores and delivering them to 1,550 residents in food deserts. Upon learning about budget cuts in their school district, Annie and Shirley also started summer math camps and workshops in 2019 that helped more than 90 fourth- through sixth-graders prepare for their standardized tests."

9th Grade PGPs Sent to each Student's HISD Email Account
Bellaire Counselors met with students the week of November 16 to review their personal graduation plan and the graduation requirements. A Personal Graduation Plan (PGP) is a form that must be on file for every student. The PGP designates the endorsement the student is on, establishes post-high school goals, career interests and tracks grades throughout high school. Every 9th grade student will select the Multidisciplinary endorsement as a starting point. This means they will earn four credits of the core subjects- English, Math, Science, and Social Studies, including Algebra 2 and Chemistry or Physics/ Principles of Technology. More endorsements can be added later, depending on the choices students choose for their electives as they proceed through high school.
Please watch this screencast to learn how to complete the form correctly.

Once you have downloaded the form, completed it and signed it, it should be saved to your computer. The form can then be submitted through the link below.

***Can't sign your form electronically? Make sure you have downloaded and then opened it in Adobe Reader. You will not be able to sign the form in your browser window.
