Our Church Council met again this week and believes that it is wise and faithful to stay the course. We will continue with virtual worship services and no in-person church meetings until further notice. Please let us know if our Care Team can help you in any way. Please find ways to connect with one another, church leaders and staff. We will be offering new and old ways to BE THE CHURCH this autumn!

Beware! Someone outside our community is sending emails to PUCCers claiming to be Kevin asking for help. Please ignore these requests. Apologies.
He would not make a generic request for help in this fashion – and this particular email came from an email address other than kevin@parkwayucc.org

Halloween Candy Needed
Oct 17 deadline | Container in the front entrance under the food donations

Every year we send our college students a little Halloween treat to let them know we are thinking about them. We are asking for Halloween candy to send to them. Also, in place of our annual Trunk or Treat we’re offering a Community event, Outside Halloween Adventure on Saturday, October 24 from 5:00-6:00 PM. It will be held rain or shine around the church grounds. Families with masks and social distance will meet superheroes telling their stories and will receive candy as if trick or treating, So, we are asking for candy at this event as well. Thanks for helping us! Contact Barbara Kuhlmann: barbk@parkwayucc.org | 314-607-2841

Inspiration
The Work of World Communion … in the Spirit of Howard Thurman
by Maren Tirabassi, 2014

When “Des Colores,” “Jesu, Jesu,” “Siyahamba,” and “In Christ there is no East or West”
are stilled,

the tambourine and the djembe and the singing bowl are put away,

when white bread — gluten and GF replace pita and rye,
tortilla, rice cake, and naan,

when the children are not dressed in their grandparents’
or somebody else’s lederhosen
or dashiki or obi,

when mission partners
are not asked to be guest preachers,

and every prayer is in English
(at least until Pentecost) —

the work of Communion begins:

to find the lost girls, to heal Ebola,
to feed all the hungry
in body and spirit,
to release the borders to children and their parents,
to rebuild Palestine and Ferguson,
to ask forgiveness of indigenous people,
to bring peace without drones,

and, in every season,
to make music in the heart.

Humor
Why didn't the two worms go into Noah's ark in an apple?
Because everyone had to go in pairs.

Growing up, we learn that voting is our most valued, our most sacred privilege. It is through this simple act that we can shape the future of our neighborhood, our town or city, our state, our country, and, ultimately, the entire world. During this pandemic, so many of us have felt isolated and alone. Through this generous effort of our friends at Shaare Emeth, we do NOT have to be isolated from our right to vote.
In my opinion, this is the most crucial election in my almost fifty years of voting. Please take advantage of this priceless opportunity provided to us by our family at Shaare Emeth and VOTE!

Wear a mask.
Bring a pen.
Bring ID.
Bring your filled out ballot, but do not sign it or seal it ahead of time.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s
Saturday October 24

The St. Louis Walk to End Alzheimer's is happening on October 24th. Small walks will be all over the city, in neighborhoods, on sidewalks or trails with family and friends. People within the PUCC community are currently affected, so it has a special meaning this year. All of us are raising funds for one goal, a world without Alzheimer's and all other dementia. Because this disease isn't waiting, neither can we. Please visit the Parkway Team website: https://act.alz.org/site/TR/Walk2020/MO-GreaterMissouri?team_id=619694&pg=team&fr_id=13574

Contact Joyce Ruiz by email at: joyceruiz7 @gamil.com or phone 314-494-8979 with questions or to sign up to walk together.
