Prayer Partner Alliance Newsletter
May 2022
God’s perfect creation reminds us again we are entering a season of rebirth, a time of year when nature reawakens. Ralph Waldo Emerson wrote, “Beauty is God’s handwriting. Welcome it in every fair flower.” With hope refreshed, we reflect on our blessings and joyfully anticipate the future God has for Protected Harbor.

We were grateful for God’s blessings during recent challenges that included surgeries and other emergencies and thank all who prayed during this time. The residents are participating in the “Special Strong” program again this season. It is a wonderful gift from our community partners that offers an exercise regimen and nutritional tips. With support from our professional staff, everyone strives to maintain their physical, mental, and spiritual health in optimum condition.

Kimber is helping to provide healthy meal options for her housemates this spring. She started a vegetable garden growing tomatoes and other items for all residents to enjoy. Learning how to care for plants and watching the caretaker get rewarded with beautiful results is both a learning opportunity and concrete proof of God’s generous gifts. The kindness, selflessness, and abilities of our clients never cease to amaze, creating genuine smiles all around.

We also enjoyed an exciting adventure. Freedom Waters treated our residents and special guests to a “yacht day” on the gulf. This all-inclusive sailing event offered sun, fun, food, and fellowship as a special blessing to close out the month of April.

As always, we are thankful for your continued prayers, financial support, and the many volunteer hours that help us achieve our goals and serve the growing number of clients God brings to us. Please consider sharing this newsletter with your friends. Along with our website, it is a wonderful introduction to the people, programs, and mission of Protected Harbor.

“Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come” (Song of Songs 2:12)
Staff Spotlight:
Jeanni & Chadwick Duncan
Jeanni and Chadwick Duncan have been an integral part of our staff for just over two years. As residents of Florida for the past twenty years, they were both aware of the need in our area for support systems that serve persons with special needs. Early in their careers, they served as house parents for the Florida Baptist Children’s Home. The couple continued on to hold many diverse roles. Chadwick became, in fact, their regional manager, while Jeanni held other important positions.

During this time, they became aware of Protected Harbor and were intrigued with the mission statement of our organization. After spending much time in prayer, seeking the Lord’s guidance, they joined Protected Harbor as Direct Support professionals and Operations Managers. Their combined experience and dedication to God’s work are a perfect fit for the needs of our residents.
Behind the Smiles: Meet Kimber
It is a pleasure to introduce Kimber, a resident at our Camino Real Way home. She exudes joy when describing the many reasons, she loves living there. Despite coming from diverse backgrounds and geographical areas, Kimber feels blessed to live in a community surrounded by people who live with similar challenges to those she faces. Communally, they all bring something different to the experience, making it a unique but balanced home environment. The unifying thread throughout is their love for each other and for God.

Kimber rejoices in the fact that the staff is always there to help bring out the best in each of the clients by teaching them new activities and achieving new goals. For example, she is not a strong reader so when trying to decipher a recipe she is working on, the occasional help she receives from staff becomes essential.
We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from our donors.  In response to the many calls we receive asking how you can help, we are continuing our Online Wish List.  Click the Contribution link on the left for a current list of items needed and desired for the homes.  Items are shipped directly to the homes making it even easier for those wishing to lend an extra hand of support.
