At the ascension (which was Thursday) we, like the disciples in today's reading in Acts, are left looking at the sky. But in the High Priestly Prayer (John 17), Jesus brings us back to earth. In the prayer he speaks not only from the perspective of the risen and ascended one, but as the Word of God, now made flesh. The prayer anticipates the accomplishments of this Word, which does not return empty (Isaiah 55:11), namely in the fulfillment of the "hour" of Jesus' crucifixion and resurrection. It is as if Jesus has already ascended "to my father and your father, to my God and your God" (john 20:17), and has returned to tell us something vital.
As we overhear Jesus, we learn that God's character and motive are identical to those of Jesus, who has now, fully and completely, "made God's name known." We no longer have to speculate about the nature of God, God's purposes and love are made known in Jesus. But we also learn about ourselves. Jesus' prayer frequently mentions the "world" - the world at once hostile to God and God's anointed, and yet also beloved of God (John 3:16). With Jesus' commissioning today we have our work to do, to make God known in and through Christ Jesus. The Living One works through us as "words within the world," who no longer seek meaning among the dead, but are empowered to make known the vibrant, new reality of Easter. [Sundays and Seasons 2020]
Alleluia! Christ is risen. The Lord is risen indeed. Alleluia!

O
God, the King of lory, you have exalted your only son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven. Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen

The gardens have been nurtured and planted. All that is needed now is watering and a little weeding. If you are able, would you please sign up to water a week or two this summer. The hoses will reach all beds except the front sign bed. A bucket will be made available for this watering. The front bed is new to the watering schedule this summer. The existing flowers were overgrown and required pulling and replanting. It will definitely need water. You can continue to physical distance while watering the gardens. Watering also provides a time of tranquility.

FROM THE MUSIC CORNER by Holly Simons
|
As Memorial weekend is upon us, I pray you find opportunities to praise, worship and sing. In our beloved country, we have been besieged in many eras by trials we thought insurmountable. Yet brave men and women, and countless leaders - especially our faithful God - helped us find our way to persevere, be strong and courageous, grieve deeply and then move forward. May this be your path as well in this pandemic season.
Our choir ZOOM meetings are special connections where we've experimented trying to share musically over the internet. One week, I led us in some interesting explorations of how to "sing" together..... it's tough, and definitely not preferable to being together.... but we're willing to try anything right now :0). One week, Paul Dostie played some lovely hymn tunes on his trumpet, and another week Claudia Bissett played meaningful arrangements of flute pieces. Choir members alternate with opening and closing us with a prayer, poem or reading; and most special is just sharing our thoughts and experiences as we travel this pandemic season together.
Ralph and I hope you enjoyed our first Wed night "livestreaming on Facebook" on May 13th, where numerous folks let us know they enjoyed the singing! This past Wednesday (May 20th) at 6:40pm, we aired a prerecorded "prelude" of Paul playing trumpet on "Let us break bread together" (A communion piece that helps us remember the sacred moments of receiving Eucharist together at the rail); and then at 6:45 we sang three songs together: "Borning Cry" (used often to celebrate baptism, and read in full by Pastor Bill in his message this past Sunday, 5/17); the Navy Hymn "Eternal Father, Strong to Save" and ending with some verses of "For all the saints".
Travel to
Facebook Holly and listen to this 20 minute broadcast (under the "Posts" section). Once it's recorded, you can access and listen to it anytime on our church FB page or later when it's re-posted to our YouTube channel. You do not need to be a facebook member to view it - just ignore the messages to sign-in or sign-up.
Soli Deo Gloria!
Singing with you forever,
Holly and Ralph

Churches Have Closed Before Due to Pandemic
|
From 1918-1927 The Rev. Thomas Shoesmith, father of parishioner Jane Newcomb, served as Rector of All Saints Episcopal Church in Leighton, PA. As the flu epidemic raged in November of 1918, the Board of Health ordered all churches and meeting places closed. That parish worshipped from home without the assistance of Facebook live streaming or Zoom meetings. Their church history notes that many of the parishioners were very ill and a prominent parishioner and the infant son of the prior rector(The Right Rev. Winfred Ziegler who later became Bishop in Wyoming) died in January of 1919.

Connect With God & With Others
|
"...have you ever found God in church? I never did. I just found a bunch of folks hoping for him to show. Any God I ever felt in church I brought in with me. And I think all the other folks did too. They come to church to share God, not find God." -Alice Walker
The church is where God's people-YOU-are. While we are in exile in our homes, we don't need to go to church to find God, because when we are church together on-line we share God. There are many ways to connect, to see, hear and share God online at All Saints'...

Not sure how to connect via Zoom?
During this time of disconnect due to Covid-19, All Saints' is utilizing Zoom for many gatherings.
From Sunday Virtual Coffee Hour, to Bible Studies, Zoom will allow our congregation to connect live and face-to-face, while following the social guidelines set in place by our government. Here are the steps for participating via computer or telephone:
- You will find a link to the event and an I.D. number and password. (Note: The FIRST time you open a Zoom link, it will prompt you to download the app. This is FREE. Please follow the instructions given to install.)
- Each Zoom event that you open will ask for the I.D. number and password.
- For any video/visual participation, you will need a camera either on your phone, or on your computer. If you do not have one, the invitation email you receive will provide instructions for calling in on your phone.
- We encourage participants to mute yourself unless you have an opportunity to speak. Household noises can often times be a distraction to others. If you would like to get your Zoom account set up ahead of time, visit https://zoom.us/.
Troubleshooting:
- If you log in and no one else is in the gathering, double check to make sure you have the right date and time; if you do, it's likely that you've clicked/entered the wrong link/address. Each meeting has its own link/address and only works for that gathering. Note: some gatherings use a "wait room" and the host will let you in.
- If you get connected but can't seem to connect audio, try using "chat" (link at the bottom of the screen) to ask for help.
- If you can only see one person, try clicking on the "speaker view" button on the top and switch it to "gallery view" to see all participants.
- If your internet connection fails and you get knocked off, simply join back in. It happens.
- If you're stuck, contact the event host/leader.

Thank You for Giving During This Time of Pandemic
|
Thank you for all who have continued to support the work of All Saints during this time. You may make contributions by mail, using your financial institution's automated check writing service, or secure online giving via Donate
Creator of all we enjoy, we give you thanks for the countless people you have gathered to do your work as All Saints' Wolfeboro. We thank you for your Holy Spirit inspiring some as they longed for this church, others as they built this church and still others as they lovingly and boldly led this church through times of abundance and times of scarcity. Help us to be bold as we model giving of time and money during this time. Make our generous giving a symbol of both our faith and our gratitude. We pray in the name of your son, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. Amen.
