Pastoral Reflection

In our reading from the Gospel tomorrow, I hope you’ll hear the echoes of racial reconciliation as the Good News of Jesus expansively includes those of different ancestries, heritages, and backgrounds. I hope you’ll hear Jesus’s condemnation of the ways of degradation and corruption. The death that Jesus suffered was meant to humiliate the victim, but John uses the language of being “lifted up” to subvert its purpose. In a great twist of divine humor, Jesus undergoing this form of execution brings not scorn but glory, accomplishes not humiliation but healing, and does not foreshadow downfall but ascension.

My friends, we live in a world beset with starvation and hunger, racism and hate crimes, desperation and hopelessness. As we walk in the ways of generosity and service, in ongoing learning and empathy, in keeping lit the lamps of hope, we walk toward the new life Christ is bringing us into. Lift your eyes and see.

In faith and hope,

Rev. Tom+

Mission Team

Easter Outreach

Faith Episcopal Church has a long history of Easter donations with local and international mission. This year our international mission will be the Holy Land Institute for the Deaf in Jordan.

In addition to community clinics and outreach to children with disabilities living in Syrian refugee camps, the Holy Land Institute for the Deaf (HLID) offers therapeutic services for hearing-impaired, deaf, and deaf-blind students, a K-12 academic program, and vocational training programs. In supporting HLID, we’re joining with the Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem and its network of other supporters in a 30-year practice of serving children with disabilities, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, or ability to pay. For more information about this important, please visit https://afedj.org/easter/

Our local mission will provide much-needed technological pieces at the Center at St. Matthew’s in the Arden Arcade area. Details about this will be shared by CeeCee Coleman in our service tomorrow.

Your generosity is a source of comfort and strength to those who need it most. We have a wonderful opportunity to reach out to our deaf and blind neighbors in Jerusalem, as well as to our hungry neighbors here at home.

Holy Week Services

Once again, Holy Week looks a little different. Three notable changes you may notice are the Tenebrae-themed Evening Prayer service, a family-friendly Stations of the Cross service on Good Friday, and a Great Vigil service that will leave us in suspense as we wait for Easter morning. You can read more here.

Church Directory, Giving, and More!

Realm is not just a Directory – it is a database, it is where you register for events, it is where you can track your financial giving or just give, it is a privacy tool that you have complete control of. You can change your own photo, change your address, change your phone number, etc. Note – if you enter your birthday it only shows the month and the date – never the year.

We are slowly introducing our church community to the features of this new system. The directory is the latest addition and below is a link that provides information on how to access the Directory – or Group - as the app calls it. Have fun and be sure to reach out with questions to [email protected].
