Over the past weeks, as we have continued to navigate the challenges presented by COVID-19, our hearts have also been broken as racial injustices and discrimination have been brought to the forefront. As communities gathered to mourn the senseless and tragic death of George Floyd, conversation and protests erupted across the nation.
At IPM we believe that every individual should be treated with dignity, respect and kindness. We strive to create an environment where individuals of all backgrounds are treated with equality and envision a world where NO ONE, regardless of race, religion, ability, sexual orientation or any other status wonders where their next meal is coming from.
For us, staying true to our values means offering a welcoming smile as a client walks into the pantry. It means empowering clients with a choice of needed food items. It means ensuring that everyone has access to everyday personal care items. Now, especially during this moment in time, it also means taking the time to listen to people of all races and voices of the unheard, learn about how our history has impacted racial equity and respond to this information with love for our neighbors.
Recently, two IPM teammates had the opportunity to participate in a Racial Equity Matters workshop. This training provided a renewed understanding that each and every one of us has been impacted by racial inequity, and we must actively work to enact change. In keeping with our values, at IPM we will continue to be agents of reconciliation and healing in our community as we work to build food security and share dignity, respect and kindness with our neighbors in need.
