Stronger together.
Dear Colleagues:

In this newsletter, you'll hear about the collective work of Detroit College Access Network and Detroit Regional Chamber's Detroit Drives Degrees . We feel there has never been a more important time for us to band together to support Detroit students.

The Detroit Chamber serves on the DCAN Leadership Team and together we work to coordinate and align our efforts so all Detroit students can achieve their educational dreams. Additionally, the Chamber has generously provided office space to DCAN for the last several years.

Going forward, we'll continue to align our communications efforts by regularly sharing joint newsletters.

In the following sections, you'll find information on:
  • Detroit Drives Degrees Race to the FAFSA Line & Student Supports
  • Detroit Drives Degrees Adult Learner Supports
  • Upcoming DCAN Lunch & Learn and Senior Supports
  • Detroit College Decision Day

As always, please be in touch with ways we can better support you or with your questions or concerns.

With hope,

DETROIT DRIVES DEGREES ANNOUNCES STUDENT RESOURCE PARTNERSHIP & LAUNCHES DETROIT RECONNECT
Race to the FAFSA Line & Student Support

In the wake of COVID-19, Detroit Drives Degrees has partnered with DCAN to virtually support students by conducting a series of college access webinars and one-on-one virtual advising to high-school seniors in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb coun ties as an extension of its Race to the FAFSA Line work.

We are proud to say that this year’s Race to the FAFSA Line Challenge engaged over 100 schools in the region and assisted 8,996 students in FAFSA completion. Eight schools participated in our very first Sprint to the Finish cohort, and received additional support and some received a temporary FAFSA adviser who was placed into their school for several weeks.

Adult Learner Support

We are excited to announce the launch of  Detroit Reconnect  – a service to connect adults who have completed some college education or who would like to attend college for the first time. Through Detroit Reconnect, adult students are connected with college and career exploration, financial aid support, connections to community partners that help support families, and more.

For assistance with the regional debt-forgiveness program and college-transfer planning, complete the  Reconnector Inquiry Form  and schedule a  15-minute appointment

VIRTUAL DETROIT COLLEGE DECISION DAY
DCAN remains committed to its mission to increase postsecondary readiness, enrollment, and attainment so all students in Detroit can achieve their educational dreams.

With that at heart, DCAN will host a virtual, citywide College Decision Day event to provide some positivity during this time and celebrate our seniors as they prepare for their transition into college this fall.

Virtual Detroit College Decision Day will take place Friday, June 12, 2020 from 1 to 3 p.m. via Zoom . Our hope is that this virtual event will serve as an extra layer of celebration to any additional virtual Decision Day activities you are hosting individually.

We would like to invite your school to participate in Virtual Detroit College Decision Day by:

  • RSVPing your school for the event by May 22.
  • Student RSVP link will be sent upon registration.
  • Committing to sharing the registration link with your senior class.
  • Submitting a video message from a student on behalf of your school or a college reveal photo.
  • Staying tuned for more details in the next couple of weeks!
