We're Back

I want to take this opportunity to welcome you back the Newsletter of the New Trier Democrats.

In these unprecedented times, we feel that we need to stay in touch with our fellow Democrats. We will be posting all the “virtual events” that various organizations are offering. There are many opportunities for you to participate in getting out the vote. There is phone banking and postcard writing with Sister District or Indivisible Evanston, etc.

Also the New Trier Democrats are looking ahead to the November election with COVID-19. We believe there will be in-person voting. We, however, are promoting that the safest and easiest way to vote is by mail. We are urging the legislature to push for earlier dates to apply for ballots. Please make sure that if you have moved or married, etc., that you re-register to vote. Information on all of this will be available on our website and the Cook County Clerk's website as it develops.

We need your vote and we want you to be safe. Thank you for all you do and all you will do to elect Democrats.

This Weekend Through Tuesday, May 9-12, 2020: Phone Bank With Indivisible Evanston to Help Democrats Pick Up Another Congressional Seat in Wisconsin’s 7th District

Wisconsin is having another special election on May 12, so Indivisible Evanston is working with their friends at the Democratic Party of Wisconsin (DPW) to help Wisconsin citizens vote safely.  Tricia Zunker , is running for a vacancy in the 7th Congressional District (NW Wisconsin).

Tricia is an attorney, law professor, associate justice of the Ho-Chunk Nation Supreme Court, the president of her local school board, and hoping to be the first Native American representative to Congress from Wisconsin.   Read Ballotpedia  to learn more about the WI CD 7 race between Tricia Zunker (D) & Tom Tiffany (R). Obama won CD7 in 2008 and 2012; a Democrat was in this seat 10 years ago – Tricia Zunker can win this race with our help!

Sign Up for one or more of these Get Out the Vote Phone Banks for Tricia Zunker:  May 9 May 10 May 11 , &  May 12 .

Contact Indivisible Evanston leaders  Kathleen Long  or  Laura Tanne r if you have questions. They’d be happy to walk you through the process. They plan to hold a virtual Phone Bank Social on Zoom, too – details soon!
Sign Up to Postcard at Home With Sister District New Trier and Help Flip Wisconsin & Michigan

Sister District New Trier is supporting Indivisible Chicago and their mission to send 2 million get-out-the-vote postcards to Michigan and Wisconsin before the November election.

Their goal is to increase turnout by 20,000 voters who share our values & encourage mail-in ballots at the same time!

They will order enough postcards for everyone to participate. Please help support the effort with a contribution of $10 per 20 postcards and stamps. You can pick up your kits from Lisa in Wilmette (address will be provided) or she can drop them off within the area the week of May 10.

We have all summer to complete them so please don’t feel any pressure if the timing doesn’t work for you right now.  Sign up to order your stamp/postcard packages here.  If you have any questions, contact  [email protected] . Thanks and stay healthy!
Sign Up to Write Postcards at Home to Wisconsin With Indivisible Evanston

Join Indivisible Evanston to write postcards to likely Democratic voters in Wisconsin, encouraging them to vote in the November Presidential election. They will supply the postcards, names and addresses and script. You just supply the postage (and support the post office at the same time)!

Until they can meet again in person at postcard parties, they will have packets of 100 cards and materials available for pick up seven days a week at three locations in Evanston. You can also sign up to pick up cards in Chicago with Indivisible Chicago, or order directly online to have them shipped to you if you are outside of the Chicagoland area.

How it works:

  • Go to their Sign Up and select your preferred postcard pickup date/location.
  • Check the blue Sign up box on the date and location you want to pick up.

Vote-By-Mail Push with Indivisible Illinois

We need to plan nationally and statewide (even in IL) for the security of our votes in November 2020!

1. CALL ILLINOIS LEADERS!

Ask our state legislators, Governor Pritzker, election officials, and ISBE to remove any barriers to receiving, tracking, and returning an absentee ballot. All jurisdictions should include envelopes with prepaid postage for all voters.
If vote-by-mail legislation is not passed by the end of May in IL, there will not be time to organize another option, and an expanded vote-by-mail program will not go forward.
  • Script & Contact information to call on your own here
  • Sign up to phone bank with Indivisible IL here

2. KEEP CALLING CONGRESS THIS WEEK!!!

Indivisible National has created a tool to help us call our members of Congress — including Democrats — today and demand that they fight to include these emergency protections for our election in the next coronavirus bill.

Sign Up For Indivisible’s Payback Project

Indivisible’s  Payback Project  is a plan to target TEN Republican Senators up for reelection and take back the Senate majority. Defeating this many Senate Republicans will not be easy. It will take a massive awareness campaign to expose the truth of their complicity to voters, and a growing grassroots army on the ground ready to ensure their Democratic opponents have the funding and people necessary to knock doors, activate voters and win.

Indivisible has a comprehensive, four-pronged approach to make sure Republicans Senators are held accountable for their actions, their votes, and their enabling of Donald Trump.  Click here to learn more and get involved

One way to take action is the Payback Project’s a peer-to-peer textbanking outreach campaign to engage voters across the target states to take action with Indivisible groups in their area and mobilize locally to flip their Senate seats.  SIGN UP  right now to text and help them win back the Senate this fall.
