April 2021 EDITION
Community-Based Big of the Month
Congratulations to our April Community-Based Big of the Month, Mark Colaco!

Mark and Dy-Ago have been matched for going on seven years. Mark has shown Dy-Ago a tremendous amount of support over the years and continues to invest time and research resources to help Dy-Ago determine what path he would like to take in life. Dy-Ago is now a high school senior and graduates in the Spring.

What would you say has been your favorite part of being matched to your Little?

"My favorite thing has been to see how my conversations with my Little seem to have an impact years later. It's definitely a long time to see what your impact is as a Big, but kids really do retain a lot, so it's great to see that my Little has been listening. My hope is that at some point in time when he is faced with a challenging scenario, he'll think about what we have discussed. I think the exposure to the way other people in my community live is another great part of this program. It makes me realize how much I can give through mentorship and how much of a need there can be."

Thank you for being a wonderful mentor, Mark!

Everyone, meet Taylor McCullough. Taylor has been the Marketing Manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas since February of 2020 and is our Spotlight Employee of the Month. When asked why she decided to work at BBBSCC, Taylor mentioned her mom instilled in her and her twin sister the importance of doing well in school, going to college, and getting into a career that you are passionate about. Taylor's mom dedicated her career to teaching and providing opportunities to deserving children. Taylor spent much of her childhood volunteering at food banks, shelters and looking for other ways to give back. She also credits her sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for continuing to reinforce the importance of community service.

Taylor said, "Every day, I strive to provide marketing support to staff, board members, Bigs, and community members so they can share the story of Big Brothers Big Sisters. Seeing the outcomes of the mentoring relationships created and supported through BBBSCC is the most rewarding part of my job."

On a day-to-day basis, Taylor handles internal and external marketing and communications for the agency, including social media, website, and advertising. Prior to BBBSCC, Taylor worked for Relevate Health Group in Cincinnati, OH, where she was an Engagement Coordinator for hospitals and doctors. Taylor lives in Charlotte with her partner BJ and son TJ.

Please join us in congratulating Taylor McCullough as our BBBSCC Staff Spotlight of the Month!
Everyone, meet Sadie Scott. Sadie is one of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Carolinas Enrollment and Match Specialist and is our Spotlight Employee of the Month. As an Enrollment and Match Specialist, she is in charge of enrolling anyone that applies to our program, including volunteers, kids, and guardians. She then interviews them and matches them based on their interests, preferences, etc. When it comes to her role, Sadie loves seeing the kids smile when they first meet and connect.

Sadie graduated from Queens University in Charlotte, North Carolina, and earned a degree in Sociology. She is fortunate to have a best friend who has played a role in her life. Sadie's best friend is the reason why she loves the work she does. BBBSCC was Sadie's first professional job out of college. She vows that she is the woman she is today because of her best friend. Mentoring is something Sadie believes people take for granted. "Just knowing that small things you do for people have such a big impact on their life is rewarding. I love helping people obtain this mentoring connection."

Sadie is so passionate about the work that she does, she took the step and became a Big Sister. She mentioned being on the other side of the enrollment and match process was very memorable for her. Sadie and her little just had their first anniversary in February, and to celebrate, she drove to Virginia to surprise her.

Sadie's favorite motto is "Treat everyone with kindness." We are thrilled she is here with us a BBBSCC as an employee and Big Sister.

Please join us in congratulating Sadie Scott as our BBBSCC Staff Spotlight of the Month!
