Important Message Regarding Current Events

Before you begin your Orientation experience, we want to take a moment to recognize the pain many members of our community are experiencing due to the recent deaths of black men and women at the hands of law enforcement. Curry College stands committed to achieving inclusion and providing support for our black and brown students during this difficult time. We condemn hatred and racism on our campus and in our community. Our Office of Diversity & Inclusion (ODI) is available to all incoming students at 617-333-2346 or  diversity@curry.edu .
SHIFTING ORIENTATION ONLINE FOR 2020
As you know, COVID-19 continues to impact our daily lives and the lives of our students in ways we have not seen before. In order to ensure the health and safety of our incoming students, we have shifted from our traditional overnight and in-person sessions to an online Orientation program.

We will be providing online Orientation modules to both students and families with information and resources to prepare you for the fall semester. In addition to the online Orientation experience, we will also be providing additional virtual opportunities for you to engage with the Orientation Leaders, Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, Athletics, and Student Financial Services staff members over the summer.

Information and login credentials will be shared via email with you in the near future.

Have you registered for Orientation yet?
Students must complete the registration form found on the New Student Checklist, on the  myCurry portal . This form provides us with details as well as your intention to complete the online Orientation experience.
Meet Your Orientation Leaders!
Each new student will engage with an Orientation Leader (OL) during the virtual Orientation experience. An OL is an upper-class student who helps new students adjust to life on campus during the summer and fall Orientation programs. You will have the opportunity to virtually meet the OLs this summer and reconnect with them during Welcome Weekend. OL's are a great resource for students and families regarding questions about life at Curry.

New Student Checklist
All students are expected to complete the New Student Checklist items by the corresponding date found on the checklist.

Wondering where you can find the New Student Checklist? Log into your myCurry portal and access the checklist from the Quick Launch menu found in the top left of the screen.
Finding Ways To Support YOU! - College Student Inventory (CSI)
At Curry, we pride ourselves on providing students the support and resources they may need to be successful – but first we need to know a little bit about who you are. This survey will help us get to know you and your classmates a little better. We ask you to complete this survey by July 1.

You will receive an email this week from Carrie Cokely, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, ( carrie.cokely@curry.edu ) with a unique link for you to use to complete the survey.
Excited About Scheduling Classes For Fall?
Fall course registration will take place in early to mid-July. More information on how to sign-up for an advising appointment will be forthcoming as part of the virtual summer Orientation experience.

Preferred Names on Student Records
Curry College understands that there are circumstances in which you may choose to utilize a first name different from your legal name within the Curry community. In these cases, you may identify a preferred first name to be recorded in the student system. Please note that use of a preferred name does not change your legal name. A change to your legal name requires specific documentation.

How do I request a preferred name? Please complete the Preferred Name Request, located on the myCurry portal under the 'Registrar' tab. In most cases, your preferred name will appear in the student system by the following business day.
Living On Campus?
Things to Consider When Looking for a Roommate

It's not uncommon that students may feel anxious about living away from home for their first time. What will it be like? Who will you live with? Many students are using social media to find a roommate in advance. Whether you choose your roommate in advance or are excited about someone who matches your shared preferences - we encourage you to consider the following:

  • Refrain from assumptions about someone based solely on their social media presence (or lack thereof)
  • Make sure to have honest conversations about what you are looking for in a roommate - the questions provided on the Housing Preference Survey are a great start. Finding out more will help you determine if the person will be a good match.
  • Respect and open communication are paramount in successful roommate pairings. Having difficult conversations will no doubt happen at some point. Ensure that both of you are prepared to have the conversations. Residence Life & Housing staff are also here to help.
  • Don't feel the need to have a handpicked roommate this summer. The Office of Residence Life & Housing will use your preferences to select someone that closely matches your shared preferences. Be sure to be honest when completing the Housing Preference Survey.
  • Have you agreed to room with someone for the upcoming year? Make sure to mutually request each other on the Housing Preference Survey and Residence Life & Housing will honor that mutual request. Housing Preference Survey responses are due by July 1.

Questions?
As you embark on your exciting first year of college at Curry, you are bound to have questions for which you don't know the answer. Our goal is to anticipate those questions and concerns with email and website communications.

However, if you have a question that we have not yet addressed, or if you are having trouble getting to the proper resources, please email fye@curry.edu for assistance.
