In 1999, colorectal cancer was the second-leading cause of cancer death in Kentucky, with a mortality rate of 22.6 per 100,000. At the time, the state ranked 49th in the U.S. for CRC screening, with a rate of only 34.7% for colonoscopy and sigmoidoscopy. In response, the Kentucky Cancer Consortium, the state's comprehensive cancer control coalition, launched a multi-pronged initiative to improve screening rates. Early on, the KCC reached out to a wide range of individuals and organizations and assembled a coalition of 70+ diverse statewide entities. Read more about this partnership effort at
