COVID-19 Legal Meeting
July 26: PPOA representatives hosted their weekly teleconference to continue assessing the impact of COVID-19 on our membership. Meeting participants included Executive Director Wayne Quint Jr., Labor Representative Teresa O'Neil and PPOA legal counsel.

LA County public health officials have recently said the indoor mask mandate would likely be reinstated, however they reversed course following a steady decline in COVID-19 hospitalizations over the past week. On Thursday, the announcement was made that the mandate would not go into effect this week, after all.

PPOA and LASD Reach 'Points of Agreement' for Security Officers at Community College Bureau
July 27: PPOA and LASD management signed off on Points of Agreement regarding deployment changes for Sheriff's Security Officers (SSOs) at Community College Bureau (CCB). This agreement covers a number of important topics, including seniority, rebid of assignments, schedules and more.

Fringe Benefits Strategy Meeting
July 27: Executive Director Quint joined fellow labor leaders from the Coalition of County Unions (CCU) for a video conference to prepare a counter proposal that will be presented to County executives during contract negotiations next Wednesday (8/3/22.)

The CCU collectively represents more than 30,000 union members employed by the County of Los Angeles and is their unified voice on matters such as health insurance, vacation pay, retirement, and more.
Sheriff Villanueva Discusses Current Issues

Unit 612 Members Overwhelmingly Approve New Salary Contract
July 29: PPOA members in Unit 612 voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new salary contract with Los Angeles County. The official ballot count was conducted in the PPOA conference center yesterday (7/29/22) at 10:00 AM. Results are as follows:

PPOA Welcomes New Sergeants
July 29: PPOA staff proudly welcomed approximately 70 newly-promoted LASD Sergeants to this Association yesterday. The Department's newest supervisors reported to the Sherman Block Buildinin Monterey Park to pick up their new badges and were joined by PPOA in order to answer questions and ensure they would be protected by union representation. These Sergeants will be officially promoted tomorrow and begin reporting to their new assignments. The first class of their two-week "Super School" is slated for September.

Safety Members: Re-Elect LASD Captain Shawn Kehoe in Upcoming LACERA Election
On August 5th, LACERA Safety Members will receive an important email. This will be sent to your department email address and will include instructions for voting electronically or by phone for the LACERA election. Please note that ballots will not be mailed to your home. The PPOA Board of Directors has once again unanimously voted to endorse Shawn and urges all Safety members to vote to re-elect the 24-year LASD veteran to represent the interests of PPOA members on both the LACERA Board of Retirement and the Board of Investments.
