Congratulations to the Palmetto CRA for winning the 2021 Cultural Enhancement Award!
U.S. 41 travelers remembered Palmetto as the city with the iconic gift shop, marked by a large seahorse statute.
The Winters opened the gift shop in 1953 and operated it until 1976, when the Green Bridge was expanded, and the seahorse was razed. The Palmetto Community Redevelopment Agency commissioned Artist Ron Berman to “raise the seahorse” once again in Palmetto, enhancing
the City’s history and beauty.
This statue was installed on September 16, 2020
