Newsletter
MAY   2020
NY, we LOVE you!

Dear friends,

Welcome to my "PHOTOBLOG" Newsletter, a monthly publication which is being sent to clients and friends, to keep them updated on my current photographic interests, new works and future developments.

My goal is to format the Newsletter around a short series of images, which I will try to describe briefly, so that important or interesting details will be easily available to the viewer.

Most of the imagery displayed here will also be on view at " IMAGES" Photographic Art Gallery, located at 14406 Detroit Avenue in beautiful Downtown Lakewood, and I would be happy to extend to all an invitation to stop by sometime for a visit.

As always, I will appreciate your comments and suggestions pertaining to my work, and, should you enjoy these images, please feel free to share the"PHOTOBLOG" with friends and others as well; anyone interested in my work could be easily added to my distribution list by contacting me at  [email protected]

or   by visiting at  www.mellinophotography.com.

This month  "PHOTOBLOG" Newsletter is my personal homage to NYC and its people, at a time when so much tragedy, fear and death have ruthlessly devastated this corner of the US, leaving us all astonished and helpless as we wait, no matter where we are, for this frightening wave to reach our shores.
I wish I could state to know NYC as New Yorkers do, but I have only gained some likely superficial awareness of this fascinating and restless city during several visits over the years, which allowed me to observe and capture through my camera its magical moments and feelings as I was trying to understand its true personality and absurd contradictions. Whereas I am not sure I would want to call her home, I do believe that the experiences and the "happenings" gained in the Big Apple are well worth the next visit, whenever it might happen... who knows now!
So, please join me in a toast to NYC, hoping to very soon see new life and bright, sunny days rising over her, with plenty of hope and serenity in the hearts and the minds of its people!
NY, we LOVE you!

 NY, we LOVE you!
Street food typically all over NYC...a soft drink, some honey roasted nuts...what else?!
More giant skyscrapers being built all the time, taller and taller... above, pedestrian traffic around the Fish Market District in late winter.

The iconic Flat Iron Building, shot last year...above, people wandering outside the OCULUS Building in Manhattan; the contrast between its ultramodern style and the century old buildings surrounding it is really remarkable! Then, the spectacular view from the One World Observatory at the top of the One World Trade Center.
NY, we LOVE you!

Street images: a row of electric bikes waiting to be rented...a great way to beat the crazy downtown NYC traffic!
Above, a couple of images part of my "Easy Rider" project: these are all B&W "street" shots taken from aboard a bus on several occasions...the first always brings to mind the famous Beatles album cover, the other is a great instant of everyday life, with people hanging out for a smoke or a bite, as a river of cabs goes by...
NY, we LOVE you!
A night time view from my hotel terrace...magical!
Someone waiting for someone else somewhere, as this story gets beautifully reflected!

NY, we LOVE you!

Inside the "Oculus", from where you can connect to all the Metro lines of the City.
Just look around, you will see all kind of ads for sure...
A souvenir stand with its wares.
NY, we LOVE you!
The old and the new reflected!
A small city park, near the Flat Iron Building, on a late winter sunny day.
"Al fresco" dining at the Rink Bar, Manhattan.
NY, we LOVE you!
The wait to get to the top at the Observatory was well worth it!
Below, this structure was originally located near the Twin Towers, it got damaged but not destroyed and it is now placed for eternity on the grounds of the 9/11 Memorial and Museum Square, for all to remember.

Since my last Photoblog of April, the world is now a VERY different world indeed! I am amazed to have witnessed so much change and such incredible degree of human adaptation in such a short period of time, but given the clarity of the message, we all did what had to be done!

The Cleveland Art world has also come to a very painful, abrupt stop, with likely unpredictable and as yet unknown consequences in the short and the long run; so many wonderful and very creative organizations have had to retreat to uncharted territories, as yet unable to predict their future and their ability to continue in their artistic missions and output. We all hope that our community and all the friends reached over the years will find a way to ultimately continue to support the splendid and deep rooted artistic traditions Cleveland people and its visitors have been able to enjoy for decades all over town!

"IMAGES" Photographic Art Gallery plans to gradually reopen its doors in May, depending on the upcoming guidelines, and always in full respect of all the measures recommended to guarantee yours and everybody else safety and good health. A wonderful exhibit of Venetian images will be on display, along with unusual imagery on Cleveland, our Lake, the beautiful nature surrounding us and so much more. We hope you will find the time and the desire to come visit us; we will be happy to arrange for a private visit for you and ( few...) friends of yours, if so desired, and as always are available to complete a specific art project for your home, office or for your loved ones!

Thanking you again for your past support and friendship, we wish you safety and very good health in the upcoming months...

Happy Spring !

Marcello.
