Update on the Novel Coronavirus in Sacramento County
On Thursday, March 5, Sacramento County proclaimed a public health emergency and a local emergency in order to ensure appropriate resources and funding are available to the County in its response to COVID-19, also known as 2019 novel coronavirus. The proclamations do not signify an increased risk to the residents of Sacramento County.

The Sacramento County Health Department serves as the lead in public health emergencies in the Sacramento region. The City of Folsom is following established emergency protocols and will share important news, information, and instructions with our community.

Folsom Signs Contract to Ensure Reliable Water Supply
The City of Folsom and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation signed a contract on February 28 to improve the long-term reliability of the Central Valley Project water supplies for local communities. The City of Folsom will improve its water supply reliability by permanently receiving up to 7,000 acre-feet of water per year from Folsom Reservoir. This is in addition to 27,000 acre-feet of water supplies the City can receive under two other contracts with BOR.

Also signing repayment contracts were other American River Division Contractors including Placer County Water Agency, City of Roseville, Sacramento County Water Agency, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, San Juan Water District, and East Bay Municipal Utility District. These new contracts will provide a more reliable water supply to families, local communities, and farms within the Sacramento region.

Under the congressionally-approved Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act, water service contracts were authorized to convert to repayment contracts. Folsom will also achieve future cost savings by not having to incur environmental review and other expenses associated with future renewals previously required under the previous contract.

Speed Limits Reduced on Greenback Lane, Prairie City Road, and Riley Street
On Tuesday, February 25, the Folsom City Council unanimously approved an ordinance establishing reduced speed limits on Greenback Lane, Prairie City Road, and Riley Street, based on traffic study findings presented by the Folsom Public Works Department.

Speed limits will be reduced on three major roadways:
  • Greenback Lane, Madison Avenue to Folsom Auburn Road, from 50 mph to 45 mph
  • Prairie City Road, Highway 50 to Iron Point Road, from 50 mph to 45 mph
  • Riley Street, Rainbow Bridge to East Bidwell Street, from 35 mph to 30 mph
  • Speed limits are based on an Engineering and Traffic Study for Speed Zoning (ETS), which assesses roadway conditions, land uses alongside a given roadway, and collision history.

The new speed limits will take effect this spring. For more information, contact Engineering Manager Mark Rackovan at  mrackovan@folsom.ca.us  or 916-461-6711.
