Weekly Update from Holy Faith - 9/5/2022

A Prayer for Labor Day

O God, through human labors you continually perfect the immense work of your creation. Listen to the prayers of your people, and grant to everyone employment that calls us to our best and unite us with each other, so that we can serve our brothers and sisters, and your world, through our work. This we ask through your Son Jesus Christ, who lives in unity with you and the Holy Spirit, one God forever and ever. Amen.

See SASS's New Space on Sunday, September 11th, 11:45 AM - Special Tour for Holy Faith Church!

Saline Area Social Service has moved to new space at 1259 Industrial Drive. Participants will see and hear more about the services SASS offers to Saline-area residents who are in need. See for yourselves the display of fresh produce from Holy Faith’s food garden.

This is a private tour for the people of Holy Faith! We will rendezvous in the Holy Faith parking lot at 11:30 am, and then caravan to Industrial Drive.

Meet for Ignatian Prayer Mondays, 10-11 am, September 12 - October 3

Ignatian prayer is a form of meditation on scripture. During Ignatian prayer, you imagine yourself participating in the story and then notice (and then pray) the prayers that arise within you.

Participants will be led through a meditation on a new Gospel story each week. We will try to meet outside in the memorial garden, weather permitting.

Summer is ending and it is time to get back in the classroom! Adult Education will start on September 13th at 10:30 am in the Social Hall. This year we will journey back to Early Christianity. Participate in a “Sacred Ground” Small Group this Academic Year
Visit the Sacred Ground website for more information about the course
Sacred Ground is an 11-part dialogue series on race, grounded in faith.

These discussions will be online (by Zoom) and will meet every other Wednesday evening, starting September 14th, and concluding in March. The group will not meet in December. Sign-up is limited to 6-8 people.

Participants prepare for each session by watching a film and/or completing a reading assignment. The series is open to all and is especially designed to help white people talk to other white people.

Pastor Andrea is co-facilitating this discussion group with the Rev. Carol Mader from St. James Church, Dexter. Membership will be balanced equally (6-8 people from each parish).

Blessing of the Animals Service: Sunday, October 2, 10 AM, Outdoors

In honor of St. Francis of Assisi who famously loved animals and all creation, bring your animals to receive a special blessing, a certificate, and a St. Francis medal.

In our prayers that day, we will remember beloved pets who have died. Submit names and kind of your deceased pet (ie: Casey, beagle) to office manager, Laurie Tikkanen: [email protected]

Optional - bring on October 2nd, donations of (new) dog food and gently used towels and blankets for the Devoted Barn, a home for animals who have been abused, neglected, or have special needs. HFC parishioners Suzanne Buchalski and Mike Centlivre volunteer there and will bring our donations to the farm.

Invite your veterinarian, dog-walker, groomer, trainer, pet-sitter, pet shop owner, or Humane Society representative to showcase their business or expertise by having a display table in our parking lot before and after our outdoor Blessing of the Animals Service, Sunday, October 2nd, 10 AM.

Invitations are available for you so you can invite folks who have expertise about ways we can take good care of the animals we love. Click here.

October 16th All-Parish Potluck Lunch with Keynote Speaker

Sonja Markqwart, Esq.

Make up for lost (COVid) time, and share a potluck meal with friends after church. During dessert, we will hear from Sonja Markwart, Esq. Sonja will talk about planned giving, and how a planned gift is the ultimate form of Christian witness, and one demonstrating affection and concern for Holy Faith over many years. She will talk about ways to make a planned gift and how each of us can leave a lasting legacy. Look for a potluck sign-up later this month.

Help Holy Faith Extend a Safe Welcome:

Join A Team to Install an Outdoor Hand Railing

Holy Faith’s PLT would like to install a hand railing alongside the sidewalk, leading from the parking lot to the front red door entrance. Our own Larry Darling has drawn a beautiful architectural plan and compiled a “shopping list” of component parts.

Although we tried to hire pros to do the installation, the

tight labor market means we have yet to find a contractor interested in the project.

Intrepid Buildings & Grounds Chair, Steve Jolliffe, believes that given Larry’s precise blueprint, Holy Faith volunteers can get the job done.

If you are able to be part of an installation team, please contact Steve: [email protected]
