JOIN CONSERVANCY SUPPORTERS AROUND THE WORLD FOR A VIRTUAL CELEBRATION OF THE SS UNITED STATES
70th Anniversary Gala Offers Something For Everyone
Seventy years ago this summer, the SS United States was christened, draped in billowing red, white and blue as tens of thousands gathered to watch the water meet her hull. The nation’s flagship would go on to make maritime history as the fastest ocean liner ever built, smashing the transatlantic speed record using only two-thirds of her power. This stunning new symbol of her namesake nation would captivate the world with her sleek lines, mid-century modern design, and technological innovation. To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the launch of the SS United States, the Conservancy and its chapters around the world will be hosting a virtual gala next Wednesday, June 23, starting at 7:00 p.m. ET.

This platinum anniversary event, being hosted by West Coast Chapter Co-Chairs David Perry and Mark Perry, will include unique contributions from our world-wide network of supporters, including musical performances by renowned cabaret performers "Meg & Me" (Megan Mackay and Billy Philadelphia) courtesy of the West Coast Chapter, a first-ever sneak peak at young shipster Ryan Miller’s computer-generated imagery tour of America's Flagship, a stunning video visit of the restored SS Rotterdam courtesy of the Conservancy's European Chapter, and a special toast to the Blue Riband holder by the Hampton Roads Chapter.

The virtual gala will offer fun and entertainment for the whole family. You can RSVP HERE. This special event is free of charge. If you'd like to make an optional donation, you may do so as part of the RSVP process, and as always, your support is greatly appreciated. We also encourage you to share the event on social media. After 70 years, we have much to celebrate!

TOAST TO THE SS UNITED STATES WITH A SPECIAL WINE PACKAGE ASSEMBLED BY THE HAMPTON ROADS CHAPTER
On June 23, 1951, the SS United States was christened by Lucille Connally, wife of Texas Senator Tom Connally, in Newport News, Virginia, as she smashed a bottle of American Champagne against the mighty vessel's hull.

As part of our 70th anniversary celebration, the Conservancy's Hampton Roads Chapter has put together a limited-edition wine package so supporters can toast the big ship.* This special-for-the-Conservancy package includes a limited-edition bottle of Kelliokee sparkling wine from MountainRose Vineyard in Wise, Virginia; two wine glasses coated in chocolate by Mary Griffiths, a chocolatier from Williamsburg, Virginia; and two SS United States Conservancy cocktail napkins. Kelliokee is a delicious, award-winning sparkling Traminette featuring orange blossom on the nose with rose water and tropical fruit notes on the palate.

Each wine package includes a generous donation to SS United States Conservancy that will help us continue the mission of saving our beloved ocean liner. Order today and you can be toasting the Big U at home during the gala or during July 4th celebrations!

THE BIG U CONTINUES TO INSPIRE...

"Loved this! I teach American history, and include the age of the steamships and trans-Atlantic liners in the technological history of the U.S., so this is a fabulous resource."
