June is busting out all over…. As we begin to think summer and all that it holds - no school, longer days, warmer weather, vacations and getting lost in dreaming about the “lazy, crazy, days of summer.” – OED is running full speed ahead. We’re excited to be working with businesses who want to locate here, and we’re providing support and opportunities to those we value who already call Frederick County home.

I’m excited to share that current Frederick County small businesses (50 or fewer employees) have the opportunity beginning June 17 at 7:00 am through June 25th at 3:00pm to apply for a County Small Business grant. The application will be available here.  Eligibility requirements and restrictions are included in the application. Our grants team is happy to assist with any questions you may have – OED@frederickcountymd.gov.

The Frederick County OED’s  2021 Homegrown Frederick publication is now available! Our Agriculture Team couldn’t be more proud of this annual publication that provides free listings to all our direct to consumer farms. What better way to support our local agriculture community, find fresh produce and spend time outside than visiting one of our many farms, craft beverage businesses, farmers’ markets and orchards. We hope you enjoy the articles and information as much as we do.

It may just be the beginning of summer, but our Business Appreciation Week (BAW) committee is hard at work preparing for our favorite event of the year. BAW is scheduled for October 25-29. We’ll be visiting and celebrating those businesses who have started, expanded or located in Frederick County in 2020 and 2021. If you are interested in participating and getting free marketing exposure, contact Jodie Bollinger at jbollinger@frederickcountymd.gov or call 240-315-8678.

Take a summer break from your normal day and join us or one of our partners for a learning opportunity, including our EmPOWER events or the 2021 Maryland SBDC’s Women’s Conference on June 22. Check out the free webinars available from the Governor’s Office of Small, Minority & Women Business Affairs. An updated list of training opportunities is always available on our website.

No matter the season, we’re always sharing our business community news. We hope you find something in this newsletter that makes you say, “now that’s a great Frederick County business”

Enjoy your summer!
