Who Is This?
Rev. Karin Kennedy Hejmanowski, preaching
Greetings!

As temperatures rise here in the California Bay Area, we are reminded that both our bodies and our souls are in need of refreshment. I hope that one way that you find refreshment is as we gather for worship on Sunday mornings at 11 a.m.

This week, as Libby’s time with us gets closer to coming to a close, I’m grateful to have her assist in worship. We’ll also have some time to thank her at our congregational meeting, which I hope you’ll plan to attend immediately following worship.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday!

Peace,
Karin

Join us immediately following worship this Sunday for a Congregational Meeting.

After the service is over, log on to our Zoom meeting at:

Theme for Sunday
“God's love is very specific... God's universal love and [God's] great mercy for the world are ultimately known and revealed in the particularity of human beings loving each other as siblings."

-Charles E. Moore, from "Next Door" in Called to Community: The Life Jesus Wants for His People, p. 292-293

Questions for Reflection
  • Have you ever had anyone question your motives in a way that felt unfair to you?
  • In today's passage, the disciples begin with questioning Jesus' love for them. Do you ever question God's intentions toward you? If you step back and take a moment to center yourself, what do you think are God's motives toward you?
  • Are there storms in your life that cause you to question Jesus' love or power? In the midst of that reality, allow yourself to remember and embrace that you are God's beloved child.
Mark 4:35-41
On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd behind, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. Other boats were with him. A great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that the boat was already being swamped. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion; and they woke him up and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” He woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm. He said to them, “Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?” And they were filled with great awe and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
