Student Spotlight - Chidimma Nnagbo
|
|
|
Hello Raiders,
My name is Chidimma Nnagbo and I am from Nigeria. I am a new international graduate student in the Master of of Public Health program. If I were not pursuing a career in Public Health, then I would major in Creative Writing. I love writing poems, and sometimes short stories. I could tell you a short story of how I posted a couple of pictures on WhatsApp of myself here in the US and my best friend back home asked if it is only one jacket I travelled with. I decided to wear a cotton sweater the next day; little did I know that Ohio winter has no respect for the number of winter jackets I have. I almost froze. Haha. People at Wright State University are accommodating and nice.

I hope to meet more people and get exposed to the American culture. I am already attempting new foods but I am doing that with caution because buying it means eating it, whether I am enjoying it or not. We don't waste food where I come from. The last attempt I made had me sobbing and eating the food. I'm here for new experiences and a wider scope of view.

Maintaining status on OPT is still the same as usual
You are permitted only 90 days of unemployment between the start and end dates on your EAD card. In addition, you are required to report the following information through the SEVP Portal while on OPT within 10 days from the change:
1. When you start a new job.

Can I travel back to my home country during OPT period?
Please be aware that if you are unemployed for more than 90 days, you will lose your OPT status. Also, during this uncertain time, we do not suggest international travel as there is no guarantee of open borders.
