Greetings!
Several events are scheduled for next week, and I'd like to alert you to two that may be of particular interest and importance. N.C. State's annual Day of Giving is scheduled for Wednesday, March 24. That day – even if you're not a graduate of the university – you have an opportunity to not only give back to the industry via the N.C. Textile Foundation, but also to help ensure a brighter future for students who one day will be plying their trade in or leading our companies. Please read this week's lead story for more information and ways to donate.

Many U.S. and global textile and apparel manufacturers as well as brands and retailers proudly count N.C. State Wilson College of Textiles alumni in their employee rolls, and the college continues to hold a major stake in the future of the industry.
Through its innovation, research and education, the Wilson College of Textiles – the only remaining four-year institution for textiles and apparel in the U.S. – will remain a major pipeline for preparing the industry’s future talent.
That’s why Wednesday, March 24 is important to the College and the industry as the university holds its annual Day of Giving. That day, graduates, friends and industry partners have the opportunity to make a world of difference in students’ lives and the industry’s continued success, according to Michael Ward, executive director of development at the North Carolina Textile Foundation (NCTF), the fundraising arm of the Wilson College.
The day offers a chance for the Wilson College to officially celebrate a new endowed scholarship, courtesy of an enormous gift from the Blue Bell Foundation, and carry on the legacy of a large, Greensboro, N.C.-based international apparel company. Read more.

One of the biggest challenges facing the manufacturing sector, the textile and apparel industry notwithstanding, is the labor shortage. And rather than help close the deficit, the COVID-19 pandemic may have made it even tougher for the industry to attract and retain new talent in the U.S. due to economic impact relief payments and other factors.

Parkdale of Gastonia, N.C., created branded masks for its “I Wear, I Care™” program, wherein they designed and donated the face masks emblazoned with those words to citizens of communities where its operations are located. This year, Parkdale gave out more than 20,000 face masks. Parkdale, America Knits (cut and sew) in Swainsboro, Ga., and U.S. Bag (packaging, part of Parkdale’s U.S. Cotton Division) in Cleveland, Ohio, were all part of the product’s creation. Each mask is packaged with a photo of a Parkdale employee and caption telling their story and commitment to helping the U.S. textile industry address the critical shortages of PPE.
