Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast
As schools turned to distance learning during the coronavirus outbreak, Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast has helped to make sure students continue getting educated on career readiness, entrepreneurship skills, and financial literacy.

The organization’s Google Classrooms and virtual Career Speaker Series have served more than 10,000 [May Number] students [June Number: Over 30,000] in Palm Beach County schools. They have offered “real-world” experiences for students and helped them prepare for a bright future.

As part of our May member spotlight, Nonprofits First asked Katie Spitzig, the agency’s Middle and High School Programs Manager, to explain what Google Classrooms is all about and tell us what Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast does in the community.

PBC Public Schools will Allow Some Summer Camps to Open
With more people returning to work, Palm Beach County public schools are moving to allow some summer camps to open on their campuses this month. District officials say 14 camps operated by local nonprofit groups or city governments would be first in line to reopen, and that other district-operated and privately run camps could follow.

PBC Schools will Detail Reopening Plans in July
Officials Want to Hear from Parents
Parents and students should know by mid-July what Palm Beach County public schools’ plans are for reopening campuses, Schools Superintendent Donald Fennoy said Wednesday.

But before a decision is made, the school district will attempt to survey every school parent for a better sense of how many students will return to campus when classes resume Aug. 10.

Dr. Fennoy announced at a school board meeting Wednesday that an online survey will be sent this week to the families of the district’s 174,000 students. The survey will ask, among other things, about families’ comfort level in returning to school and using school buses.

The survey responses will be considered by a committee of district officials tasked with studying different reopening scenarios.

Since March 13, over 26,000 local students have been served by Junior Achievement of the Palm Beaches & Treasure Coast. How? Our team pivoted quickly to switch to 100% digital virtual classroom education.

Over fifty age-appropriate, virtual lessons and activities were made available for our local teachers to incorporate into their lesson plans. This included a Virtual Career Fair Series, which was only made possible because people like you answered our call for help and shared your story!

The community has shown that together we can make a difference - thank you!

As we prepare for the new school year, we are aiming to provide almost all of our programs virtually. Additionally, we are increasing our annual impact goal from 25,500 to 40,000 students!
