Dear Colleague,

This is a reminder that all individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) age 16 and older will be eligible to receive a COVID vaccine starting on Monday, April 5, 2021. Research studies have demonstrated that individuals with I/DD are at risk of very serious illness if they contract COVID, so it is particularly important for them to be vaccinated.  Appointments for the vaccine must be scheduled online or by phone; walk-ins are not permitted.

As a continuation of New Jersey’s efforts to ensure equitable access to the COVID-19 vaccine, particularly in underserved communities and those at higher risk of exposure or infection, Governor Murphy announced the opening of a mass vaccination site in Newark. The Newark Community Vaccination Center, established in partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), is located at the Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility at the New Jersey Institute of Technology and can accommodate up to 6,000 individuals per day, seven days per week. Please see the fliers from the NJ Department of Health, announcing the availability of COVID vaccines at the Newark Community Vaccination Center: [English] [Haitian Creole] [Portuguese] [Spanish]

Eligible individuals with I/DD or their caregivers can call 855-568-0545 or visit NJ COVID-19 Vaccine for information or to schedule an appointment for the COVID vaccine at locations throughout New Jersey.
