April 2020
Dear Parents,

If there was ever a time to ask the question, “how are you doing?" it is now. I mean seriously, how are you doing?

Our lives have been turned upside down this past month. It’s likely that you have your student under your roof again. I keep coming back to the realization that in this life, we do not have control. While many people around us are fearful, we as a Christ-followers are called into action for such a time as this.

Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”  Paul is in prison when he writes this and reminds us that we are to be thankful, and not anxious. You might feel like your confinement these past days feels somewhat like a prison, but despite our current circumstances, we have hope.

What the world needs most right now is that message of hope and this is our time to point others to the source of that hope. We need not fear, although uncertainty may be at an all-time high. While UNW students are now in a virtual learning environment, they are continuing to develop into leaders who will take this message of hope into their homes, churches, workplaces, and the world for such a time as this.

Finally, please know that our leadership is prayerfully doing all they can to care for our students, faculty, and staff. Please pray for UNW students as they face new challenges and uncertainty looking towards the future. The financial needs are great, but we serve a big God. I am including a video from Dr. Cureton that I hope will offer you encouragement.

God bless you and let your student know that we miss seeing them on campus,

PARENT BLOG
In this unprecedented time in the history of the world God created, remember that He is still in charge. We can rest, knowing that He cares more about us, our families, and the Christian community that is the University of Northwestern, than we could fathom. We can honor Him by refusing to react out of fear. Rather, we can peacefully pursue our part while we trust Him to do His.
TOP 10 REASONS WE ARE ALREADY GOOD AT THIS…

  • Northwestern has been delivering online education since 1994. That’s more than a quarter of a century of experience in virtual learning communities.

  • Courses that were already online just kept going as scheduled. We didn’t skip a beat.

  • Pre-pandemic, every campus-based course already had a Moodle course shell in place and a host of training materials ready for instructors to transition to virtual learning quickly.

  • Relationships are in UNW’s DNA so The Academic Continuity Team is providing extra training in community-building online.

  • An Emergency Response Team has been routinely meeting and training for such a time as this. When COVID-19 hit, the team was ready to move into action.

  • Our Office of Campus Ministries is delivering spiritual encouragement to our student, faculty, and staff community online.

  • TheROCK’s new, mobile friendly format went live just ahead of our transition. God knows what we need!

  • Students can absolutely stay on track and on-time for their academic goals. Even registration for summer and fall are staying on schedule.

  • The mission hasn’t changed. You have a faculty and staff team fully committed to delivering a quality, Christ-centered education.

  • You are being prayed for by a team of faculty and staff who are fully committed to Jesus Christ.
