THE
CENTRAL CONNECTION
May 2020

"We are an organization of churches that is committed
to the mission of Christ to multiply disciple-making churches
through evangelism, leadership training, and connection with
other like-minded churches."
The initial ENGAGE forum was held April 28th with a secondary meeting on April 29th. We had an excellent turnout. Between the two days we had about 33 pastors attend and had a great challenge related to mission and the gospel. We have some great pastors and churches who have a passionate heart for the mission of Christ and we are seeking to encourage you in our network.

ENGAGE # 2The Power of the Gospel
Purpose: to challenge our thinking related to gospel and missional critical issues and how it relates to our next steps as pastors, leaders and churches.

Title: The Power of the Gospel
Text: Romans 1:16-17
Theme: How do we really think about the power of the Gospel?
  • Do we rely too much on our own power and ability rather than the power of the gospel itself? Do we hinder it?
  • Do we act like we are ashamed when we fail to live by faith?
  • How is the gospel as relevant for believers after they are saved?
Catalyst: John van Gorkom – Lead Pastor, Calvary Church, Eau Claire, WI

THESE THINGS I KNOW
" When I graduated from Seminary in 1976 I “knew” it all. My finely tuned ordination paper was equivalent to the Nicene Creed, but longer, at 19 pages of single spaced wisdom. In the following years I learned some lessons that I failed to grasp in Seminary. I would like to share a bit of history and four of the many lessons that I have learned over the years." Read More

"As pastors, we know the church's mission is to make disciples. But what is a disciple exactly? How do we go about ensuring that we're making them -- that we're producing fully-devoted followers of Christ, and not just people playing church? And perhaps most challenging, how do we organize organic discipleship? How do we keep the organic life of the vine the focus while building out the structure to support it? If you've asked questions like these, we'd like to invite you to an online vision gathering. Randy Pope, founder of Life on Life Ministries, will share how life-on-life, missional discipleship can help you see real change in your church. " - Brandon

Plaid Ponderings: Freedom or Slavery  X XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxXXXxXX No. 9
"The days we are living in have caught every one of us by surprise. At the turn of the year, no one was giving any thought to a pandemic. When the pandemic first began, the concerns centered around the virus. People were wondering how many were going to die. Initial estimates were made in the millions. Yet now after two months, millions have not died. It has come to light that though this virus is very dangerous for some high risk people, overall the severity of this disease was substantially overestimated. Now, as many have been out of work for two months, the conversation has drifted in a different direction. People are beginning to speak more and more of freedom."
Sincerely,

A Plaid Pastor

"Leo Tolstoy, well-known Russian author, once wrote the following: The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.  This quote has taken on greater meaning for me in the midst of the Covid-19 crisis which has led to social-distancing and self-quarantining. This situation has brought forth a wide range of emotions and responses. While some have found the time to be like a sabbatical; others have found this season to be the most draining period of ministry they have ever experienced."   Read More

" Finding Hope in the Midst of Crisis"
"God makes all things
beautiful in His time."
"Welcome, and thanks for joining us! Hi, I’m Chaplain Evan Spencer and I’d like to talk to you today about finding hope in the midst of crisis…

About 10 years ago on August 5, 2010, the Copiapo mining accident began as a massive cave-in at the San Jose copper-gold mine in the Atacama Desert near Copiapo, Chile. The accident trapped 33 men 700 meters (2,300 ft.) which is 6 football fields in length below the ground’s surface." Read More
