Dear Lovejoy Community,
On Monday, June 14, 2021, the Lovejoy ISD Board of Trustees will meet and hold a public hearing on the 2021-2022 school year budget and tax rate. Lovejoy is legally required to adopt a budget by June 30, 2021, and we must account for decreases in expenditures and increases in revenue sources to bring forth a balanced budget. We have worked collaboratively with the Board over the last seven months and with increased vigor over the last three months to develop budget options including:
· Reconfiguring Pre K – 4th Grade Building Use
· Limited Application Enrollment Program
· Reduction of Administration Positions and Budgets
· Bus Fee for all Regular Transportation Riders
· Capital Projects that also reduce Maintenance and Operation costs
In prior years, Lovejoy has taken bold steps to offset the loss of state funding by cutting as far away from the classroom as possible, cutting as many non-personnel items as possible, adding new sources of revenue, and initiating other efficiency measures. Because over 85% of the district’s budget is in personnel; unfortunately, staffing is impacted when implementing changes. Over the past two months the Board and Administration have made difficult decisions to change programs to reduce expenditures. However, our primary focus, remains to provide quality academic instruction while providing an excellent student experience.
It has been my honor to serve this community and this district as the Interim Superintendent during this spring semester. However, I am more than ready to return to my day job and pass the reins on Monday night to our new Superintendent Katie Kordel.
I am excited to embark upon our brightest days ahead with Mrs. Kordel’s leadership.
With Gratitude,
