Dear Lovejoy Community,

On Monday, June 14, 2021, the Lovejoy ISD Board of Trustees will meet and hold a public hearing on the 2021-2022 school year budget and tax rate. Lovejoy is legally required to adopt a budget by June 30, 2021, and we must account for decreases in expenditures and increases in revenue sources to bring forth a balanced budget. We have worked collaboratively with the Board over the last seven months and with increased vigor over the last three months to develop budget options including:

·        Reconfiguring Pre K – 4th Grade Building Use
·        Limited Application Enrollment Program
·        Reduction of Administration Positions and Budgets
·        Bus Fee for all Regular Transportation Riders
·        Capital Projects that also reduce Maintenance and Operation costs

In prior years, Lovejoy has taken bold steps to offset the loss of state funding by cutting as far away from the classroom as possible, cutting as many non-personnel items as possible, adding new sources of revenue, and initiating other efficiency measures. Because over 85% of the district’s budget is in personnel; unfortunately, staffing is impacted when implementing changes. Over the past two months the Board and Administration have made difficult decisions to change programs to reduce expenditures. However, our primary focus, remains to provide quality academic instruction while providing an excellent student experience.

It has been my honor to serve this community and this district as the Interim Superintendent during this spring semester. However, I am more than ready to return to my day job and pass the reins on Monday night to our new Superintendent Katie Kordel.

I am excited to embark upon our brightest days ahead with Mrs. Kordel’s leadership.

With Gratitude,
Dr. Dennis Womack
Interim Superintendent
Recognitions
Congratulations to Averi Carlson, Lovejoy High School Rising Senior, on being selected as one of 20 athletes named to the Women's Indoor U20 National Training Team (NTT).

The USA Volleyball press release may be found here and shares the following:

"The Training Team will produce the 12-player roster that will compete in the 2021 FIVB Women’s U20 World Championship held July 9-18 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, and Kortrijk, Belgium. All members of the Women’s U20 National Training Team will participate in a training camp held June 28-July 8 at UNLV in Las Vegas, Nevada, before the team is selected and travels to the competition site.

Most of the U20 NTT members have graduated high school. Ten are entering their first year of college this fall, and six will begin their second. Four are currently high school seniors."

We are #LovejoyProud of Averi and wish her the very best as she competes at the national level!

2021-2022 Bus Service Information
Do you need school bus transportation for the 2021-2022 school year? In order to help us establish new bus routes for the 2021-2022 school year, please share with us your child’s plan for bus services by Monday, July 5, 2021.

Transportation fees for all regular education bus riders for the 2021-2022 school year have been established and will not apply to students who receive bus services as part of their Special Education Individual Education Plan.
Families may choose to pay transportation fees in nine monthly payments starting in August 2021 and ending in April 2022. Once the family fee cap threshold is met, no additional transportation fees will be due (excluding any late fees or requested changes in service fees).
School start and end times will remain the same for the 2021-2022 school year:

Intermediate             7:40 AM – 2:55 PM
Elementary               7:55 AM – 3:10 PM
Middle                       8:45 AM – 4:00 PM
High                          8:45 AM – 4:15 PM

Therefore, morning and afternoon pickup and drop off times will remain consistent with prior year times.

To request bus service, you must login to your PowerSchool Parent account (powerschool.lovejoyisd.net). Please make your transportation request by Monday, July 5, 2021. Only those families/students requesting bus transportation by July 5th will be included when we are establishing new bus routes for the start of the new school year. Requests after July 5, 2021, will be subject to bus route availability in the area; remaining seating capacity on the route; and your child may not be added to a route until after the start of the school year.

As a convenience, the district will offer campus-to-campus shuttle services at a reduced fee. This will be primarily 5th and 6th grade students riding a shuttle bus to Hart and Puster Elementary Schools. However, we are planning a potential stop at the Carrie L. Lovejoy Early Childhood Development campus.

We know any transportation change may cause challenges for your family. To help you prepare and to know your options, we have developed a transportation webpage which may be found here. We will update this site with important information as well as frequently asked questions.
