GGUSD Schools Earn Distinction as No Place for Hate
Eleven GGUSD schools earned the distinction as “No Place for Hate Schools,” from the Anti-Defamation League for school-wide efforts during the 2019-2020 school year to promote a positive school culture and climate built on values like inclusivity, kindness, and respect.

The eleven schools to earn the distinction as “No Place for Hate Schools” include Cook, Gilbert, Heritage, Patton, Simmons, Stanley and Violette elementary schools as well as Alamitos, Bell, Jordan, and Walton intermediate schools. High schools to earn honorable mention include Garden Grove, Rancho Alamitos, and Santiago.

To earn the designation, schools conducted a needs assessment identifying areas of growth, formed a No Place for Hate Committee, signed a pledge of respect, and implemented school-wide activities to promote and foster kindness and empathy. Some of the activities included school-wide assemblies about the power of words, field trips to the Museum of Tolerance, and student-led anti-bullying initiatives, among others.

Cook Elementary students create a pledge of respect as part of their campaign.
Patton Hosts Instrumental Music Spring Showcase
MUST WATCH: Patton Elementary School's Dave Martyn created a virtual Instrumental Music Spring Showcase to highlight the hard work and talent of Patton's musicians. Our students love GGUSD music programs - even when they have to practice and perform from home.  #GGUSDPride

GGUSD Spotlights Our Amazing Seniors
GGUSD launched a Senior Spotlight on social media feature to honor the accomplishments and hard work of our high school seniors! Families and friends submit photos and positive messages about what makes their seniors special.
La Quinta High School’s Ledia Nasr. A message from her mom: Ledia has always been very motivational and helpful towards anyone she meets. She was able to manage 2 sports and AP classes as well as internship volunteer after school simultaneously. Despite the challenges that have come by our way, she’s always been able to think positively and make the best out of them. I wish her happiness and joy in her university journey and I’m proud of her.
Santiago High School's Javier Bello. Javier's senior year reflections: Playing for the Varsity Soccer team for three years. Going to games with friends and school activities. Making memories throughout my four years that are unforgettable. The assemblies that we had were very special.
