JERSEY MIKE’S ANNUAL DAY OF GIVING
Yes! It’s happening again this year! COVR was honored to be picked a second year in a row by Jersey Mike’s Manager Mike McGaha and his awesome team at both Jersey Mike’s stores here in Bend:

On Jersey Mike’s Annual Day of Giving COVR will receive 100% OF ALL SALES ALL DAY!
Last year COVR and Jersey Mike’s together raised 8K...this year our goal is 10K!! To help us reach our goal please come out for lunch or dinner or order lunch for your office crew. You can also support this initiative by stopping in to either Jersey Mike’s location anytime during the month of March to make a donation and/or buy a COVR t-shirt or hat!

HYDROPONICS ARRIVES AT COVR

Thanks to Oregon Department of Agriculture, our phenomenal Greenhouse Manager Orion Carriger, and our dedicated veteran volunteers, COVR has completed 90% of its hydroponics installation. The system should be operational by the end of March and is anticipated to increase our lettuce yield by three times. Stay tuned for upcoming classes and educational opportunities about growing lettuce hydroponically in Central Oregon.
MEET ROSIE THE RIVETER!

“ March came in like a lion and went out like a lamb...”
 
We often get the question, “why sheep?” While sheep often get denigrated for being “stupid” and find themselves (and those who work with them) the butt of endless inappropriate jokes, sheep are actually quite therapeutic. What is a more ancient symbol of pastoral peace than sheep grazing in a pasture? What is a more archetypal or poignant image of innocence than the lamb?

COVR Founder Alison Perry’s original vision was “a sheep ranch out east where veterans could work on the land, sleep under the stars, and be in a community of other veterans.”
Thirteen years later, Founder Perry’s initial spark of a vision has come true to life at Central Oregon Veterans Ranch.

This month COVR received its newest team member and fifth therapy sheep, Rosie, whose Ranch nickname quickly preceded her delivery: “Rosie the Riveter.”

Rosie was donated by Iraq war veteran and West Point graduate Josh Rizzo. You may remember Josh from a Bend Bulletin article published last November. You can read his story and about his struggle with PTSD and wish to help others here :


Josh, like those of us at COVR, recognizes the prevalence of the “unseen wounds of war” that impact many of our veterans. He also recognizes the therapeutic value of community, nature, and animals in the healing of our war veterans and veterans struggling with Post-Traumatic Stress.

After a tour of Central Oregon Veterans Ranch earlier this year, Josh and his family decided to donate their favorite ewe, Rosie, to the Ranch. It was clear upon Rosie’s arrival this March that she is going to be the perfect therapy sheep. Unlike some Ovis aries who are skittish, Rosie seeks out contact and has a way of nudging you with her graceful girth that can only make you smile. Being around animals like Rosie can bring about a sense of peace and calm for those who suffer from the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress and we are thrilled to have received as our newest “therapist”.
