UBCM Police Act submission
    
UBCM has prepared a submission for consideration by the Special Committee on Reforming the Police Act. The Special Committee will make recommendations to the Legislative Assembly on reforms related to the modernization and sustainability of policing; the role of police with respect to complex social issues including mental health and wellness, addictions and harm reduction; the scope of systemic racism within BC's police agencies; and whether there are measures necessary to ensure a modernized Police Act is consistent with the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. FireSmart Economic Recovery Fund launched
    
The new FireSmart Economic Recovery Fund was announced last week.  Eligible applicants can now submit applications for up to $150,000. The intent of the FireSmart Economic Recovery Fund is to support immediate job creation in order to build local wildfire resiliency and assist communities in recovering from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Child care planning guide webinar  
  
The Union of BC Municipalities is pleased to offer a webinar for local governments to support their work in addressing the child care needs in B.C. communities. The webinar will be based on the guide, Stepping Stones: Child Care Planning Guides for BC's Local Governments, which was developed with funding from the Government of BC and written by SPARC BC and consultant Sandra Menzer. Rail Safety toolkit     
  
BC Operation Lifesaver has developed a series of materials, including a local government Rail Safety Toolkit, to help ensure the safety of residents in communities across British Columbia. Supporting videos, Wheel of Danger and Level Crossing Battle, have also been made available for sharing online by local governments. Read more  
 
EverybodyMoves resource hub    
  
The BC Alliance for Healthy Living and the Physical Activity for Health Collaborative are excited to announce the launch of the EverybodyMoves resource hub. This new online platform is a database of resources to support inclusive and accessible physical activity. Interested parties can also subscribe to the newsletter and social media channels.
