Many are asking, "Where can we find a prophet to guide us in these times?" Today's Daily Office readings all cry out with a single answer to each of us: Look in the mirror. We are each called to engage with the God of love we know through Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit and seek a torch to illumine our path.

Today's psalm reminds us that looking for help from other mere mortals is not the ticket to a good trip:

"Put not your trust in rulers, nor in any child of earth, *
for there is no help in them." Psalm 146:2

In the second lesson, the author adores an angel, thinking here might be a reliable leader. The angel replies:

"You must not do that! I am a fellow-servant with you ... . Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Revelations 19:10

Leaning on another human being, no matter how wise and wonderful, will never get us to the Promised Land. Job had three "friends" who tried to help him understand life, but only after he had a heart-to-heart chat with God could he say, "I had heard of you by the hearing of the ear, but now my eye sees you." Job 42:5 (in today's first lesson).

What is in your heart? Find it. Then empty it in God's company. The Triune God we celebrate today is a bundle of perpetual love and won't be able to resist an emptied heart.
