Happy February and happy New Year! We hope you and your family were able to enjoy this winter break and holiday season.
Even with the extended break, time still managed to fly by, with students already returning to campus! Like last semester, there is a phased move-in for residential students. Students began to move in on January 22nd and move-in appointments last through February 7. Visit the W&M Residence Life page to confirm procedures for returning to campus.
We are looking forward to celebrating William & Mary’s 328 th Charter Day. The event, held annually to mark the day on which the university was founded by British royal charter in 1693, will be presented virtually in accordance with health and safety precautions around the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be streamed on the university’s Charter Day website at 7 p.m. on Feb. 11.
After a fall semester unlike any other, we are all optimistic for this spring semester. With the altered calendar featuring Spring Break days, students will have breaks spaced throughout the semester and we hope students plan to make the most of these scheduled breaks.

Spring 2021 Dining Updates |
Fall residential students who will be remote learning or not attending W&M for the spring semester may cancel their meal plan once a Housing Release Request is processed. Meal plans may be removed by visiting mealplan.wm.edu. Student Accounts could take up to 3 business days to be updated.
If the request is approved after February 5, email dining@wm.edu to remove their meal plan. Refunds are based on the date of request.

Spring 2021 Parking Updates |
If your student purchased a parking decal in Fall 2020 valid until August 31, 2021, and their plans have changed for the Spring 2021 semester, they may be eligible for a refund or decal change.
Several changes were also made to parking for the Spring 2021 semester, included suspended parking schemes and the availability of a "Dillard Complex Only" parking pass, among other changes.

As previously stated, Commencement Weekend will take place May 21-23 for the Class of 2021. Our goal — health conditions permitting — is to have an in-person ceremony for our graduating students and their families. It is important to emphasize that there will be a lot of factors that will go into this decision, including the status of the COVID-19 pandemic, its impact on the commonwealth and vaccinations.
A final decision will be made about how we will gather for this joyous occasion on March 1. At that point, there will be a communication sent to you so that you can plan accordingly. Please continue to visit our Commencement website for updated information.

William & Mary will mark the 328th anniversary of the awarding of the Royal Charter from King William III and Queen Mary II of England during the Charter Day Ceremony on February 11 at 7 p.m. ET. Form 1098-T is a statement of qualified tuition and related expenses* paid and the amount of scholarships and grants received during the calendar year that is provided to the student as well as reported and filed with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Form 1098-T is intended to assist you, or the person who may claim you as a dependent, in determining whether a tuition and fees deduction can be taken or an education credit, such as the Lifetime Learning credit and the American Opportunity Credit, can be claimed on your federal tax return for any qualified tuition and related expenses that were actually paid during the calendar year. |

Spring Counseling Services and Programs |
The Counseling Center will continue to provide telemental health services and virtual outreach programs for students throughout the spring semester. These services will include brief individual counseling, psychiatry, case management, several group counseling opportunities, and various supportive outreach workshops and supportive outreach groups. Groups available range from general process groups (understanding self and others) to theme or population specific oriented groups (e.g. anxiety, women, body image and eating concerns).
Our supportive outreach programming is designed for students who may not necessarily want or need ongoing counseling but could benefit from engaging a short-term (one time or 3-4 part mini-series) supportive outreach workshop while receiving support and connecting with peers. The supportive outreach groups provide community specific support (e.g. transgender students, law students) and typically meet 2 times a month.

W&M GivePulse, our campus platform for community engagement
W&M GivePulse helps students find service and community internship opportunities all in one place and lets them track the positive impact they make in our communities. This includes helping get PPE to vulnerable populations, becoming an online archivist for the Smithsonian, signing up for a virtual alternative break, and more.

Charter Day 2021 Adventure Race
This February 12, celebrate Charter Day with an adventure! Embark on a Charter Day Adventure Race, completing challenges, following clues and solving puzzles inspired by William & Mary's history and culture. Students may join the adventure on campus or virtually from anywhere! Players that complete all activities and correctly solve all puzzles will be entered in a drawing for a grand prize, with winners selected in a post-race virtual ceremony!

The Parents Fund Supports Career Readiness |
The Parents Fund elevates student success and retention by providing support for the TutorZone. The TutorZone employs and trains around eighty certified student tutors, giving them valuable marketable skills for their future careers. Our mission is to serve all William & Mary students and help them achieve academic goals, regardless of financial ability. With your gifts to the Parents Fund, the TutorZone offers need-based scholarships to students so that they can receive the tutoring services they need. This year may be the first time some students have barriers to resources. As a result of the pandemic some students have become homeless, or parents have lost jobs. The Parents Fund is there to support these students.
- 560 students accessed 3,800 hours of tutoring in 2019-2020
- 160 students received scholarships

Bio: Elizabeth '21 is from Northern VA. She is majoring in Biology and specializes in Biology, Chemistry, and Math courses with the TutorZone. When she is not working in the TutorZone, you can find her in the research lab or volunteering with Griffin School Partnerships and Branch Out. In her free time, she enjoys reading, (watching) basketball, running, hiking, and indulging in entirely too much food. Fun fact: Elizabeth plays the piano, flute, and marimba!
