Wines of the Week
Mas de Gourgonnier Rosé, Provence $19.99
This storied domaine, run with passion and skill by Luc and Lucienne Cartier, has been farming and making wine organically for decades. Their gorgeous property in the beautiful countryside appellation of Les Baux de Provence yields powerful expressions of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan, and more - not to mention olives (their oil is one of France's finest), and incredible fruit and vegetables. Luc and Lucienne's wines combine the richness and intensity of top Rhone or Bordeaux with a crystal-clear and unmistakable expression of Provençal soil. They set themselves apart even further from the pack with the eye-grabbing rustic, squat bottle used for their unbelievably great-value red.
Goblesburg Gruner Veltliner $15.99
The Zwettl Monastery was founded in 1074 and in 1171 the Monks of Zwettl were granted their first vineyards: Heiligenstein & Gaisberg-the oldest documented sites in the Kamptal. The estate and Castle Gobelsburg was controlled by as many as 19 different families between 1074 and 1740, and in 1786 absorbed the famous Kammern Winery and vineyards. Two hundred years later Eva and Michael Moosbrugger were granted the winemaking and viticultural contract in 1996, and with the help and guidance of Michael's mentor Willi Bründlmayer, the winery has regained its prestige and considered to be a leader in quality and innovation. In 2006 Michael Moosbrugger was awarded as 'WINEMAKER OF THE YEAR' by the Austrian magazine Falstaff, the highest award given to an Austrian winemaker, and in 2009, 2010, and again in 2019 the estate was acknowledged as 'ONE OF THE TOP 100 WINERIES OF THE YEAR' by Wine & Spirits Magazine.
Piaggia Il Sasso Carmignano $29.99
"If there is one estate that embodies the potential of Carmignano, Piaggia just might be it." - Antonio Galloni
Piaggia is located right in the heart of Carmignano. The total vineyard extension is approximately 15 hectares, divided between the area of S. Cristina a Mezzana and the municipality of Poggio a Caiano, both areas with a great potential for top quality wines. Mauro Vannucci started this activity in 1990 because of his great passion for great red wines, with the aim to produce wines up to the standard of Carmignano appellation. In its almost 20 years of existence, Piaggia has managed to solidly establish its place among the great wineries of the classic Tuscan DOC of Carmignano, being called by Gambero Rosso "one of the best wineries in the region of Carmignano, rather, in Tuscany."
